TRUTHLiVE - Tormented Genius
Artist: TRUTHLiVE
Producer: Martin SLO
Album: The UnLearned (Pre-Album EP)
Label: Interdependent Media
The intellectually gifted have it tough – from the excruciating logic puzzles, to the boring MENSA meetings, to the neck exercises you have to perform daily so that your spinal cord doesn’t snap under the weight of your massive cerebrum (seriously, I’ve seen it happen), it’s easy to see why the term “Tormented Genius” was coined. On this newly-leaked EP cut, Booth newcomer TRUTHLiVE laments that his erudite bars are lost on the majority of listeners: “...they must not get it though, my brain works in rhymes / My trying to flow is like the sun trying to shine.” Needless to say, the brainiacs who make up the Booth readership should have no trouble appreciating the Bay Area native’s agile, densely-packed flows; the rest can simply nod along to Martin SLO‘s upbeat, funk-sampled production, which comes complete with authentic cuts. If you like what you’re hearing, you can find more intellectually-stimulating jams on TRUTH’s UnLearningEP, the official prelude to the 4/20 release of his Jake One-produced debut full-length, Patience.

"Cutting edge lyricism" This dude was on point. I loved the funk-style horns throughout. Great track

i like the beat straight up ron burgundy ol skoo...flow is ok noting special it seems to push maybe they had bat latency, but the words are cool but honestly i wouldn't listen to this again especially when it does it haven't a hook, hook is a big part of hip-hop the hook makes a strong statement and this song needs one, not every song but this one does...

I agree with Kidd on production.
This is a straight up old school beat but other than that he didn't keep my attention long enough to get me through the whole song.... |

Funky Beat + Dope Turntablism = Rotation Worthy

I'm usually wary of anyone who plays the "you just don't understand my genius" card, but the man backed it up. Didn't blow me away, but definitely not anything to front on.

The lyricism doesn’t lose its steam here from start to finish, and the beat works with them, and hook is nice, which makes this My Pick for Track of The Day.

Errbody talk about how they "bringin' real hip-hop back"-This man is actually doing it. The '80s and early '90s crowd would be all over this!
Martin SLO does his part too...hopefully TRUTHLiVE has the same chemistry with Jake One that he does here (Freeway sure made it work) |

I hope this was released after his freestyle "coors light and ski boats," only so I can say he stepped it up greatly. And he gives off a lot of references to Wu-Tang.
