As far back as Slangston Hughes, Concise and K. Words can remember, they always wanted to be rappers. To them, being a successful emcee was better than being President of the United States. (In case you haven’t guessed, I just watched Goodfellas.) Now well on their way to achieving their childhood dreams, Brooklyn crew True 2 Life Music look back on their days as young’ns dreaming of hip-hop stardom on new promo single In Your Area—a Booth-exclusive world premiere. An in-house instrumental centered around a sample from Illmatic cut One Time 4 Your Mind backs the trio as they reminisce about the years on the hustle that transformed them from ambitious greenhorns into the lyrical powerhouses they are today. This joint isn’t attached to any forthcoming project, but those who like what they’re hearing can, of course, keep it locked for more quality cuts from the East Coast collective.
