The latest in a long line of artists to tire of major-label shenanigans and take their grind elsewhere, Miami icon Trick Daddy has left Slip-N-Slide in search of greener pastures on the indie side, and, with the release of his Dunk Ryders/Poe Boy/Fontana./Universal-distributed eighth album, the Miami icon plans to prove that authenticity and quality are as relevant to today’s game as they were when hip-hop began. On new single Why They Jock, T-Double D recounts his rise from the bottom to the top (where he remains, despite his departure from the majors). Fellow Dunk Ryder Ice “Billion” Berg jumps on board to tell his own story halfway through, describing how his life changed since he hooked up with Trick on street anthem F*ck The Other Side. Complete with a catchy hook by Murk Camp and a “classic Dirty South” beat by Mizzle Boy, Why They Jock will doubtless become the #1 choice of every dunk in Florida (and in the streets nationwide).
