An attention-grabbing title often makes the difference between a smash hit and a flop, and Trey Songz’ new single (the fourth off Ready), I Invented Sex, is about as cannily-named as it gets. Think about it: the word “sex” is always a big draw, and the claim itself is so outrageous that you can’t help but listen – I mean, if the singer really did pioneer the act of intercourse, what the heck were Mr. and Mrs. Songz doing when they conceived him? The mind boggles. As it turns out, the truth is not quite as interesting as the title implies (Songz simply makes love as if he’d invented sex), but that doesn’t detract from the record’s hit potential. Backed by the synth-fortified slow-jam boardwork of Los Da Mystero, Songz delivers soulful, steamy verses sure to please his devotees. It’s reader favorite Drake‘s Best I Ever Had-esque closing bars, however, that will likely be the biggest contributor to the cut’s success in the Booth and beyond. With a high-caliber guest feature and a radio-ready sound, this single should be just the thing to boost the already-substantial sales of Songz’ third album, available now in stores and online.

Easily one of the standouts on Trey's album, possibly my favorite. And this has nothing to do with Drake, for once - Trey was the standout on here along with that crazy work on the boards. Solid look from an already solid R&B album.

I hated the choice to roll out "LOL Smiley Face" as a single (not because it isn't single worthy, but because it simply isn't who Trey aims to be as an artist). The choice to drop "I Invented Sex," however, is favorable in my mind. Some might think its because of the Drake guest feature, but I am a fan of Trey's work here. Grown and sexy stuff.

The melodic transition from the verses to the chorus alone made the song a rotation material. beautifully built music although not catchy (verses) to the point of making it a classic. Then you have the BEST R&B SINGER (yes, I said it! 0_o) on it and it's a banger! His vocals are just perfect, period!

Drake was son on point with the subject and enjoyable.

I find it funny that I was listening to this last night & wondering why it never got the single treatment, good to see this is the next single. Trey's vocals are good, Drake delivers on his verse & the production is top notch.

L.O.S. Da Mystero is the most underrated R&B producer in the game

Lol at richard's blurb - "I mean, if the singer really did pioneer the act of intercourse, what the heck were Mr. and Mrs. Songz doing when they conceived him?"

But anyway, this song is smooth and I dug the snaps in the production. Trey has such a good voice and I agree that LOL:) was a bad choice for a single because this is where Trey shines. Drake had another solid verse.

This should of been the first single from the begining. Trey works great with slow jams and Los always comes with good R&B beats (The Dream's albums). Drake flowed nicely and had some nice punch lines as well.

@ FredRico, I'm not sure if I would say Trey is the best R&B singer, maybe at this moment he's hot but the best? Ne-YO is much better but just doesn't have any music out and Chris Brown always over-looked Trey, and a comeback could easily be around the corner. Until, they have music out that's not as good as this, it's to soon to say he's the best.

This song is pretty solid. Trey works well when he's not singing "LOL smiley face". haha Drake came nice with the verse too. Now he's just gotta drop the autotune.

Trey Songz may have invented sex, but I perfected it. Oh s**t! What!

Anyway, decent track, nothing to get too excited about. And Kwick777, this is definitely Dream influenced, from the snap production to Songz' vocalizations.

I gotta say this is one of my favs even though he attempted to diss the King of R&B. The vibe and melody is nice and the song would have been good without his man crush buddy.

I've had this on my MP3 player for about a month. Los Da Mystero beat is catchy and snappy and its the perfect blend of smooth and bang! to get backing from radio program directors and DJs around the globe. And then both Trey and Drake make sure it stays buried in BANGER!!! status.

@HoamBoy: I get your point but I'm not talking about timing and much less about the song itself (cuz both Ne-Yo and CB get better production and music/tunes). I really believe Trey is the best vocalist (comparing this only), meaning he could do whatever the others do and make it better. I'm NOT sayin the others suck!
I'm goin as far as sayin: Ne-yo is my favorite R&B artist (he writes and composes his songs greatly, and sings very good although not flawless).
But as a vocalist, only R. Kelly can rival Trey to me (check "Neighbors know my name").

Yup definitely think this is Dream influenced but it's got Trey's name on it and his vocals were sik!!! Furthermore I think this should be the single instead of LOL smiley face which was a dissapointment.
Lol @ Nathan.S

This songs okay. (really a 2.5 for me). I found myself waiting for Drake's verses to come. Never a good thing for an R&B artist. the hook is catchy though, beyond that nothing that makes me say this was incredible.

I'm hoping Trey Songz is gonna have a good year. He is much under apprecaited as a a r&b artist and gets no where near as much credit as half the others solo acts. I'm not liken the fact he is blowen up after what it appears Drake is but oh well.
