Ah, Internet slang—some (i.e. crotchety English teachers) sincerely believe it’ll be the death of language, but let’s be real: when they were your age, those same teachers were probably confounding their elders with flapper lingo, or, I dunno, Pig-Latin. On LOL Smiley Face, the latest single off his forthcoming third album, Trey Songz teams up with two fellow whippersnappers to blend hip-hop and IM/text jargon into a head-bobbing pop confection designed to make uptight old folks shake their heads and mutter, “Kids these days…” Over Fisha & Price‘s fingersnap percussion and music-box synths, Songz’, Soulja Boy, and Gucci Mane tell a tale of wired romance, peppering their sung and rapped verses with references to such newfangled gizmos as Twitter, MySpace, and Blackberrys. For an artist like Trey, who is growing older and should naturally look to appeal toward a more grown/sexy/mature/sophisticated audience, this is one money-hungry giant step back.
It's hard to take a could-be next level R&B star seriously, when his new song is "LOL :)" Now, I could be wrong and this could simply be the label suggesting this be the direction he takes. Regardless, it won't help Trey in his long term goal of becoming a staple of this industry.

This song is Dope! The production is crazy for real! The hook makes this ready for the radio. The only poor part of the song is Soulja Boy. Its not that I don't like S. Beezy, Its just that his verse was really weak...

Usually I HATE songs like this, but Songz made it work. The chorus is too catchy, and using a current trend (Twitpic) in a song only increases the chances people will catch on. The production was hot, and I'm actually started to like Gucci Mane. Soulja Boy, on the other hand, needs to take a hike. Solid single though, will be a moderate hit.

I can't deny it either the beat too catchy for me to ignore it. Trey did his thing, and i've never been a Gucci Mane fan but he did ok. Soulja Boy on the other hand they should have cut his verse of the track, never liked him and never will.

at first i thought everyone was just being biased against soulja boy, but seriously, he ruined the song. I thought he was just gonna be his regular self, but soulja boy is the downfall of this song. trey shoulda just had a second verse instead. but still a good song other than soulja boys verse.

Soulja boy definitely did better than I thought he would, its just as was described earlier. A RINGTONE song so for that it suits its purpose. I honestly thought it would've been worse overall.

Well this song has got me in a hell of a predicament. I know it's just a fun song that Trey made, but I don't think he should push this as a single or nothing. I think it's kind of a stupid song, but at the same time I know I'm gonna be singing this sh*t all the time if it catches on. It is what it is, I guess.

The lyrics impress like broken arms throw balls. It’s tragic ... the song could have done without Soulja's meandering, though, since all he seems capable of doing on here is making Gucci sound like the greatest rapper ever by turning in a terrible performance. BUT the truth is my say doesn't matters cos the beat/hook is beyond catchy and I know this will own the radio stations soon and it could damn well be EVERYWHERE before we know it. (I was ready to bash this, but... what a pleasant surprise!)
The production is actually hot. The percussion elements were well put together, they even managed to make the hand claps not sound corny... nice, catchy background melodies! Trey Songz is the best vocalist among the young R&B singers, period! The way he sings "pull up my page and follow and if you got a body like a coke bottle" makes the song. Gucci Mane slightly separated himself from all the lames (OJ da Juiceman bein the worst I guess) who flow in that retarded, lazy, typical repetitive flow (filled with pathetic "ays"). Or maybe it was just Soulja Boy who was so bad it made Gucci sound good. @everyone: let's bet which rating does Dj Z give this song! lol :) my bet is 1.5* |

This isn't as bad as I thought it would be. Its a cool enough track for the radio and good enough for my rotation anyway. Trey has a good voice on here, and even though the message is playful, its still a good track with nice production. Gucci sounds good and so does Souja Boy.

This song definitely has top 40 potential. People really sleep on the quality of Trey Song's music. this WILL without a doubt be in my summer playlist. Despite all that i coulda did without the Gucci verse which doesn't fit in at all.

However, i'm feelin this :) Although everything tells me not to just because of the nature of the song, its definitly one of the best 'ringtone music' songs ive heard.
