One of the most acclaimed tracks off Drake‘s smash hit So Far Gone mixtape, Successful has inspired numerous freestyles (including Young Son‘s Booth-exclusive I Just Wanna Be…), and was ultimately chosen as the follow-up to lead single Best I Ever Had. Collaborator Trey Songz clearly appreciates the record’s appeal; he’s snapped it up for inclusion on his junior album, even giving it the music-video treatment. This version of Successful retains Noah “40” Shebib’s unique, aquatic-sounding beat but omits Weezy‘s verse, and pushes Drake’s middle bars to the end to make way for Trey’s brand new sung verse. Already at #75 on the Billboard Hot 100, there’s no reason to doubt that this track will become a mainstream smash. Damn way to confuse people. Im most definately used 2 Drake's version, which, is better. If Trey was goin take the song as his for HIS album, why give track the 2 first verses and then have a below average verse. hmm...
i cant even put in rotation.. 2.4 stars. |

The thing I love about Drake is that he always rhymes more than one syllable. Makes a much better listen. Different flow on this track for him but I liked it. Trey was decent but he needs to show me more from this album than this and "LOL :)" (which, by the way, was stuck in my head all day today. I KNEW that was gonna happen sometime...). Overall, though, not bad.

These ratings are WAY too low! This is the hottest track off of Drake's mixtape, tweaked or not, and I'm so glad to be hearing this one on the radio now.
That chorus is crazy, Trey kills it. Best part of the song - when Trey says "I suppose...". Never gave it much thought until I read about the meaning of why that line was used. They were basically saying I suppose because of the way the media and hip hop influences the public and how they touch on those topics to the max. To say "I want the money, cars, clothes, and hoes" is one thing, but to say "I suppose" brings a whole different light. Look into it and get these ratings up! Sorry for making this a big deal haha, just appreciate lyrics at their best! |

I actually like this better, especially since its shorter, the original was too long and got boring. I like how they put Trey's verse second, hearing verse after verse from Drake is boring. Good way to to spark my interest in this track again, if this hadn't came out, Successful probably wouldn't get another play on my iPod, it was getting old. Videos gonna be hot, btw!

I understand why people are giving low ratings...they are just used to the way it originally sounded.
I personally think the quality sounds better on this version (obviously it was made to be album ready). He didn't drastically change the hook, so it remainds a catch to the listener. Trey's verse was nice, considering that it is now a Trey album single. Overall, I think this is still a banger track, with a little twist. Much respect to Trey and Drake! Keep it up! Hope to have the opportunity to work with such gifted artists soon. |

I can see why people aren't rating this as high, but i think think is underrated! This track is still HOT, and i really like Trey's new verse! However, i still liked lil wayne's verse in here too. I'm definitely gonna be listenin to both versions of this.
@cb--u definitely gotta appreciate the lyrics on here, that's one of the reasons why i loved the 1st version so much! |

Im just happy that this joint is finally receiving the recognition it deserves .... Drake proves how many ways there are to cleverly rap about problematic relationships and stardom. Not as good as OG but still darn! solid than most of the joints out.

trey's verse is a nice bonus. and the chorus only sounds different cos the song is edited, so 'hoes' doesn't pop up as usual. good fix, i will listen to both.

If this was just the beat...or acapella, or a snippet, I STILL couldn't give this song less than 5 stars. This is my favorite song of 2009 & my pick for the best song ever. Whatever version. Of course we all like that OG version, but it's whatever. You have to look at the big picture. Trey used his video budget for this. This will give Drake even more exposure. This was smart. I would have opted for Trey to have had his verse be third though, and then could have come up with a louder, more clever alternative to the "hoes" part, but overall, it's still dope. Drake's first video was with Trey and it's only right his next "good" video be with Trey again.

I agree with ThatboyHB cutting Wayne out of the track made it a whole LOT BETTER!!!! But dnt get it twisted I did like the orginal ....I think this one was a tasteful. In short , I rate this track a Classic

This song's hot. I'm not surprised to see that Songz is trying to help his album become commercially successful (pun intended) by adding this on there with his additional vocals. It's in constant rotation on the radio.
