Trek Life - As the World Turns
Artist: Trek Life
Producer: Oddisee
Album: Everything Changed Nothing
Label: Mello Music Group
I know what you’re thinking, but no: West Coast up-and-comer Trek Life isn’t an obsessive science-fiction fan attempting to bring Klingon rap into the mainstream, and his latest single, As the World Turns, is not a tribute to the obscenely long-running soap opera of the same name. While it would be brilliantly insane if both those hypotheses were correct, I think listeners will agree that the reality of this jam is considerably doper. Over a spacey yet gritty synth instrumental by Booth-acclaimed rapper-producer Oddisee, Trek Life offers some critical thoughts on the state of today’s hip-hop game, and outlines his vision for the genre’s future: “My intention: to raise the status quo of this rap sh*t / Bring it back to the street condition that brought it to fruition.” With reverence for the past and a futuristic, forward-looking style, Trek is sure to turn heads in the Booth – plus, how can you not be intrigued by a man who name-drops Snoop and Langston Hughes in the same breath? Fans can hear plenty more where this came from on Trek’s Everything Changed Nothing LP, out now digitally and set for physical release Aug. 10.

Was mostly-unfamiliar with Trek Life before 2010, but everything I've heard from him over the past few months has intrigued me enough to want to get him on our homepage. Finally the moment seemed right when my friends at Audible Treats treated me to this new Trek single.
Its everything you'd expect from Mello Music Group and is more than enough to warrant a return trip for Mr. Life to our homepage. |

I was impressed. The production gets a bit overwhelming at times, but I liked it's overall vibe. The wordplay is sick on this one, and it makes the track. Looking forward to more from Trek

Well damn, this is dope. That beat is a little trippy - you can hear a Dilla influence - and Trek's rhymes are what rhymes should be. This is that real, real ish. I'd frankly never heard of Trek before now, but I'm down to hear a lot more now .

I feel like I'm on a trip to visit aliens in the streets of L.A. Heavy verses and a heavy West Coast foundation from the beat to the hook. There's just something about it.
