Quick quiz: what’s the only thing better than being a millionaire? Yep, you guessed it, being a Billionaire. (Although I don’t know what a billion will get you that several million won’t. Your own tropical island?) Anyway, here with some horrible financial advice but good music is Travis McCoy (a.k.a. the dude from Gym Class Heroes with all the tattoos who’s now on Nappy Boy) and crooner Bruno Mars (a.k.a. the dude who sang the hook on B.o.B.’s Nothin on You). Crafted around some acoustic guitar driven ska/reggae/folk rock production from Ari Levine (of The Smeezingtons) and Mars, Billionaire isn’t just McCoy’s (very) expensive Christmas list, it’s an ode to the power of money to change lives; I believe McCoy when he says that he’d help New Orleans residents more than FEMA. So how about it Booth? Does McCoy have the musical wealth to start watching royalty checks with nine zeroes come pouring in? We’ll find out for sure when his album Lazarus drops on June 8.

this is def. a new type of vibe...but this can't touch "Nothing on You" which the video is now out...and its horrible. I kind of miss travie with the gym class heroes. I love reggae, but for some reason i did get right into this like i thought i would...but its not bad...not a big single...hook is average...flow is cool...and the beat is ok...so med. rotation...i will be looking for the album though...

Okay, so is it Travie or Travis? I know I need to keep my comments geared towards the music, but this is seriously bothering me. I digress.
Bruno Mars is on fire lately (the B.o.B record is a near-certified smash) and Travis sounds at home here (a nice diversion from his usual production accompaniment). I like it.

When I clicked the "listen" button...I braced myself for just about anything...On one hand, we have a hip-hop/indie-rock mainstay's solo debut, but on the other hand he's signed to another heavyweight's brand (in this case, T-Pain's "Nappy Boy")
Little did I know Teddy Pain likes to keep a small core and let his artists be themselves! With that reassurance, I was able to take in the fun, playful nature of this record. What would YOU all do if you were a billionaire? Side note: As you can tell, Bruno Mars is on the come-up people! He's gonna be part of Elektra's relaunch, so look out for lots more from him! |

This is awesome, from the intro beat, to when the reggae vibe drops, to the breakdowns with guitar riffs sounding like "misirlou". Travis and Bruno both sound great and i can't wait to hear more of their solo endeavors.

I'll be completely honest with y'all. My inner hater had me brace to not like this, but I was really digging the cooled out vibe, and Travis' lyrics. This is much more than just a money stacking anthem.
And no disrespect to Travis, but Bruno Mars is the star if this show. The man's got a bright future.

Cool wordplay, but this track reminds me of that really WACK single from Paris Hilton from a while back (they played it at my job and I swear I was gonna shoot myself haha)so thats pretty much 97% of the reason why I can't jump on this track like the rest of ya'll.

Go to Bruno Mars myspace and listen to "mars unplugged." Dude has talent man, I can't wait to hear more from this cat. He's awesome. I've loved him since Bobby Rays joint and this one. Again, I tend to agree a lot with DJ Z, but he did take more shine from this record than Travis did. But all in all, I enjoyed it.

I'm F'n wit this. No 808snares, No crazy lead synths, No Autotunes, etc. Lovin the live sound kinda Sublime'ish. Refreshing. And yes yes, Bruno Mars is killin it right now. Ari of The Smeezingtons is a dope producer. I like what he did on the One Block Radius album. Anyways, great track and I wanna be a F'n Trillionaire!

huh i dig the reggae feel of this. when i played the first like 45 sec's i was like 'how's this stuff on djbooth??' then i heard the FEMA line and second verse and i gotta say it kinda blow me away. good song. not something i'd listen to more than a couple of times though. the verses will get old quick and i feel like it's kinda a formula song. but maybe thats just me. =)

I feel that Travis brings much of what B.o.B. is bringing which is this alternative rapper that makes fun music. Sure the South makes fun music too but those dances get out of control and soon the club seems like a choreographed movie with everyone dancing identical to one another.
I would put Billionaire in the same playlist as Mellow Fellow and just lounge in the park with a book in my hand ipod on my lap and a toasted almond ice cream pop in the other. Bruno Mars makes a great addition to this song and sparks curiosity as to whether he could hold a single on his own and rather sound just as good on a hook of a different genre. I enjoyed Gym Class Heroes before they blew and still admire Travis McCoy now. Billionaire is right up to his style of music adding a little Caribbean flare to the mix. |

I heard this song originally and it was kinda meh. Bruno's vocals are always nice and I like travis, But it just wasn't a standout track for me. But now its about two weeks later and I'm still humming the tune. And thats what a classic is for me.

Seems Bruno Mars is becoming hot to have on a feature. I know the ladies are loving his voice these days. Travis did a good job to get him and this song is really well produced with him. Good song, not quite like nothin' on you, but still good.
