Virtually every underground rapper from New York City believes that “hip-hop is in very poor shape” and that it’s their destiny to “bring it back to the glory days.”  Joining this non-exclusive club is Coney Island veteran Torae, who after having toured and recorded with Bad Boy, Ruff Ryders, Cash Money and Dipset, believes the industry needs serious replenishment.  On Somethin’ To See, Torae does his best impression of the Columbia-era 50 Cent, bringing forward a rawness that is synonymous with NYC underground hip-hop.  Additionally, Khrysis (of Justus League) provides an accordion-laced beat, which should make Somethin’ to See something to hear.  Torae’s debut album, Daily Conversation, is available now.

I get all the mixtapes from NY and I have never heard of this guy before on any mixtape with any of those artists. But...I like his NY swagger on here and the beat is really knocking. I think its pretty good overall and I would listen to it again! So rotation it is!

The production by Khrysis is solid. Torae has some promise, but it seems like he is pretty comfortable with his current position in the music game.

Nothing unique and not the style I like. However, for NY underground, he does what it is, the hook is pretty hot so I'll put it in rotation.
