Torae - Point of View
Artist: Torae
Producer: Eric G.
Album: Heart Failure EP
Label: Internal Affairs Ent.
I won’t say “most,” but a sizable portion of men out there are such suckers for a pretty face (among other physical attributes) that they never pause to wonder what’s beneath the surface. Not Torae – from the NYC mainstay’s Point of View, what’s on the inside counts at least as much as external features. This newly-leaked EP inclusion finds beatsmith Eric G (not to be confused, of course, with Eric B) slicing and dicing some catchy soul samples as the man who brought us Wun Tu Thr3 offers his perspective on love and attraction. Addressing a female who thinks that her good looks are all it’ll take to keep him by her side, the emcee explains that, “Your outer beauty is nothing without the inner, too / That’s like the tire and the rims with no inner tube.” Time for your point of view, Booth readers – is this record the full package, or is its dopeness only skin deep? If you’re digging it, I have a feeling that you’ll fall head-over-heels for the artist’s Heart Failure EP when it hits record stores and online retailers February 12.

Torae usually executes a solid record and POV is no exception. Nice sampled backdrop from Eric G., meets an aggressive (that is who he is as an emcee) yet giving flow. It all adds up to an enjoyable, laid back listen.

Aggressive is a good word to describe his flow, it had me really listening closely. I like this dude, spits some flames. The sample is indeed a good look too.

Torae can spit, I've been a fan of the guy since the Double Barrel album he did with Marco Polo.
But as far as the Point of View join, I love the production by Eric G & Torae go hard just like he always does. More Torae please! |

You can always count on Torae to come with a lyrically solid and never soft track, and this is yet another example of the man's skill. Watch out, he's not so quietly becoming one of the more feared rappers in the game.

Nothing special on this one. Torae was on point and the sample worked in this track's favor.

The production at first is good, but quickly becomes repetitive, and Torae becomes overshadowed by it.
