Six months ago, the Booth introduced Hot Dollar’s I Got 2 Get It featuring Trey Songz. Members enjoyed Trey’s futuristic efforts on the hook, but weren’t feeling Dollar’s lyrics or delivery. Well, since then producer Get Cool’s bass-bumping electronica-fused I Got to Get It has made its way into the hands of emcee Topic, and the West Coast native (who dropped by the Booth last year with his single, Creep and Crawl) has made it all his own. Emerging with a club-friendly, grind-ready style that’s different from what he’s displayed in the past, Topic’s material might be secondhand, but his punch lines certainly are not. With Songz’ catchy and ultramodern chorus still intact, the two compliment each other well. Topic’s debut album, American Hustler: This is My Life, is due out September 23.
I like the production, though it should have been sharper and louder. It would have been outta this world then. Topic is decent. Aside from the engineering flaw, this is an okay track.
The production is good as usual. Seems like beats are really the thing these days. I can't really honestly say I even listen to lyrics oon songs like this anymore. I don't feel like I'm missing anything either. Money, Woman, drugs, murder and most importantly "swagger", the most overused and played out word in rap today. I give topic credit though, I have not heared him say it on this track. Songz, keep gettin ya shine on these songs man, he usually brings the song up a star 4 me.
To me this is a banger! Energic beat, good melody and a super Trey, as ever!!! The only thing which is a lil annoying is when they repeat I Got To Get It
This song is old. I know for a fact the hip hop station here in Portland played this song a few times in late Febuary and March. Maybe this guy being from the west coast we got to it quicker because radio is regional based. But as for the song it bangs to me but it did not really blow up here but I like it the drums during the hook is hot.
im real biased on hot dollar cos the man is choice, so i really like his version better, plus the added 'video game' sound on the hook kinda ruins this. i prefer the other one, still good tho.
I wasn't the biggest fan of the version with Hot Dollar. The beat really isn't all that to me. Topic does better lyrically the dollar but this song is just ok
