Despite residing in the City of Angels, For Your Smile emcee TiRon will always represent his hometown, Chicago. Except, actually, it’s a little more complicated than that – as he explains on his latest single (a snippet of which was released back in March), he was born not in Chi-Town proper, but in the 60901 zip code, home to the little-known (unless you’re a religious Letterman viewer) city of Kankakee. Over Booth-acclaimed rapper/producer Oddisee‘s synth/piano-driven production, the artist expresses his conflicted feelings regarding his birthplace, describing it as a depressed area where people are “too stuck to even dream” but concluding on a more positive note: “Safe to say it ain’t the best place to be, but I claim it like my own, that’s my city, that’s my home.” If this reflective cut resonates with you, keep it locked for release details on what will likely be the best condiment-related street release of 2010, TiRon’s Mustard Mixtape.

I am a ketchup guy myself, but I won't hold that against Mr. Mustard while providing my feedback on his new record.
On the vocal tip TiRon is quite an engaging story teller. While I am obviously bias - hailing from Chicago and knowing all about his musical tale - its easy to follow his story and his delivery makes you want to hear more. Production-wise, Oddisee provides a mellow backdrop that while a little sleepy works perfectly for the direction and execution of the song's central theme. Looking forward to this mixtape to see if all the online buzz is worthy. |

Nicely done production work. Kinda reminds me of Yeezy which isn't a bad thing at all! Lol @ being a ketchup guy... Gotta agree with you there

If you follow Oddisee's work you know that this type of jazzy, experimental beat is par for the course. In other words, the man's mad talented.
Really impressive storytelling skills from TiRon too: "I didn't grow up in the same hood as Ye or Lupe, but they did move ye to get that loot." Damn, great line. I've never been to the 60901, and I probably never will, but this is one of the better and more honest hometown reps I've heard in a minute. Props. |

This track is chill and I respect anyone that does the side rep for their no name town but I give you mad props for grinding your way out to make something for yourself..his skills are on point and the beat is serious. I hope this becomes his style and I hear more of his lit plastered on top of the jazz appeal

The combination of lyrics, piano, synth and drums is done really well. almost a throw back to old style night clubs with the applause at the end. 3.5 stars.

Production was fantastic on this. All those instrumentals mended together perfectly and really set up the stage for TiRon to take the stage and spit his heart out. Verses were really heartfelt, however I didn't enjoy the hook as much. Doesn't lack energy, but lacks something that could really elevate it up to that next level.

Pretty mellow song. He has a good story based rhythm. Nothing else really stands out to me though. Should create some buzz but want to hear the entire mixtape he's releasing to judge him as a rapper.
