Tinie Tempah - Till I'm Gone
Artist: Tinie Tempah
Featuring: Wiz Khalifa
Producer: Stargate
Album: Disc-Overy
Label: Parlophone/Capitol
While rock and R&B import artists from England to the U.S. on a seemingly daily basis, so far U.K. hip-hop artists have found crossing the proverbial pond a tricky proposition (word to Dizzee Rascal). Hoping to be the first rap Pilgrim (get it?) is Tinie Tempah, who first landed on DJBooth’s shores with the highly-rated Pass Out and is now looking to set up shop in the States permanently with new single ‘Till I’m Gone. Considering the circumstances, who better to craft a universally appealing, rap-tinged pop beat than Norway-to-America transplant producers Stargate, otherwise known as the men behind Black & Yellow. Speaking of which, Wiz lends his always relaxed vocal appeal to a verse and a hook, contributions that almost threaten to outweigh Tinie’s punchline heavy verses (when’s the last time you heard a cricket reference?) but ultimately don’t – or at least that’s my two cents. So how about it Booth, does Tinie have what it takes to make it in America? Those answering with an emphatic yes will want to cop the re-release of his Disc-Overy album, complete with new songs and dropping May 17.

Wiz is hot on this track. Tinie Tempah kind of brings down an amazing beat and a good hook from Wiz. I'm not diggin the whole british accent thing, maybe I'm not being open, but it doesnt sound good. and theres nothing special about him lyrically.. overall, a 3. I'll give it some listens, but Tinie Tempah is garb.

If you can look past the vocals from Tempah - which most American listeners cannot, sadly - then this is a charting song for sure. With Wiz on board, that is likely.
PS. Stargate is on a roll. |

im putting this in rotation because of the AMAZING instrumental. solid hook but not a huge fan of the british accent in the delivery (sounded like an urban Austin Powers lol). Wish Tinie Tempah all best luck with his single, just not my cup of tea.

Tinie's actually a dope lyricist, and his European-influenced production is absolutely DOPE. His first underground hit was "Wifey". His European singles are absolutely dope too: "Pass Out", "Frisky", "Invincible", "Wonderman", "Simply Unstoppable", "Miami 2 Ibiza", and of course- "Written in the Stars".
This might add to his catalog of hits mainly because Stargate's production is absolutely bangin'. |

When I saw who was in this song, I knew almost to a T what I would hear. And I was right. The only surprise was at the very beginning of the 2nd verse where I thought Lil' Wayne had a surprise verse... but it was just Tinie's accent messing with my mind. Anyway, I guess there's nothing wrong with this track. 2.5.

Tinie kills it as usual, he's a solid solid rapper and people who "can't get over the accent" need to sit down. Wiz is average as hell, it's a decent hook but needs someone who can sing to lace it. He has absolutely no range sadly.

It's sad that such a good instrumental is wasted for this track.

I will resonate what I and everyone else been saying for a while now...Tinie Tempah is a week emcee. His lyrics are very basic like a british Soulja Boy.
But, and I mean but, he knows how to choose great productions and utilize them and make very good songs. This is a case in point. On a whole (with Khalifah) this song is good. |

I've been on the Tinie Tempah train for more than a minute and this should get listens that will get people into his other brilliant tracks. Also the whole Miami to Ibiza with Swedish House Mafia should give him enough ammo to tear up a wide variety of clubs since he has some sick house, grime, and more American-friendly rap tracks.

Now as far as this track is concerned, after a couple listens he isn't on his top lyrical form. Only 3 stars and that only cause I hang with Brits who have turned me onto grime. If you think Tinie is like Soulja I encourage you to dig deeper into his catalogue. He makes money in the UK cause the simple rhyme style is popular in grime. That's his way of making a "banger"; its a cultural difference. He is perfectly capable of better lyricism so don't be fooled by his singles. They reflect a purposefully down-crafted lyricism that isn't our (america's) style.

@SirPumbaEsquire I suspected he was dumbing himself down here because his flow was definitely on point. And usually rappers that are naturally weak lyrically can't put together a flow like that.

Man, Stargate are the ish! Excellent beat, the hook is also really catchy (good job, Wiz!), but I'm not that sure about Tinie... As someone above already said, it's too bad that this instrumental didn't go to someone who would actually do it justice, but that's kind of symptomatic for Stargate beats, isn't it? (Yes, I AM talking about 'Black and Yellow'.)

Okay, let me begin with the fact of how UK Artists like Tinie, Stryder, and Dizzee have all turned from being UK Grime artists to US Pop artists. I hate it! Play me Tinie Tempah's Wifey Riddim, THATS TRUE TINIE TEMPAH! Now he just rhymes slow like a bad US rapper would. I'm from England and I love real hip hop with few exceptional tracks and artists. I enjoy Wiz's hook on here, Tinie does alright but although I feel like I have to like it, I'm just not the biggest fan here.

Can not begin to describe how much I hate Written In The Stars. So, after hearing that I am uch more pleased with this song. Not much of a fan overall, but the production and chorus are catchy.

Love Tinie Tempah, ever since he put out Pass Out I've been a fan. This song is actually a step down from the quality material he usually puts out. Its a bit of an average song but I can see this blowing up in the states. 3 stars

Hot track, I understand why people don't like the accent but get over it...... I'm not from the UK and I don't think the accent brings the song down one bit. seriously I'm not a big fan of American accents either but I deal with it and since most songs are from the U.S, I don't factor in the accent to my rating of the songs.
Dope song. Thats all. |
