T.I. - Got Your Back
Artist: T.I.
Featuring: Keri Hilson
Producer: DJ Toomp
Album: King Uncaged
Label: Hustle Gang/EMPIRE
Like seemingly everyone, I’ve been enjoying the Clifford Harris comeback tour so far. I’m Back was a banger, Yeah Ya Know was a banger; it appeared that T.I. was dead set on proving he was still vicious on the mic and in the streets, until now. Today we get the first made-for-radio offering from Tip, Got Your Back, a female-friendly cut that essentially attempts to recreate the magic of Whatever You Like. On the production tip DJ Toomp turns down the trap and turns up the melody, delivering a brightly bouncing beat that T.I. uses to drop rhymes about buying his girl all the good things in life (sound familiar) and thank her for visiting him in jail (personal experience?). And who’s this lucky, loyal lady? How does Keri Hilson sound? A combination like that could only mean one thing; we’ve got a hit on our hands. Don’t call it a comeback, T.I.’s been here for years. The King’s new album King Uncaged is set to drop on August 7.

Obviously not as good as this could have been but not horrible. This will be one of the filler tracks on the album I believe.

Keri Hilson is one of my favorite female artists in the game right now. Every record she sings on seems to be a hit to me. Putting her and T.I. together just makes perfect sense. He is one of those artists that work very well with a female on the hook (Live Your Life, Don't Forget).
While I don't see this selling as much as Whatever You Like or Live Your Life, it definitely has the potential to blow up. It fits both in the mainstream yet Tip keeps the street on this record too. So far I have yet to hear a weak record from the album, but we still do have over 2 months so I will hold my breathe. You know T.I. still has at least one more big record up his sleeve for the radio, all in time. |

This song is amazing. In my opinion, This is the best song he's put out since he got out of jail. Definitely a hit song.

this song is aight... at first. T.I. really carries it. I think the hook is holding it back, and Toomp sounds more like Jin Jonsin. But, this could do well. 3.5 stars rounded down.

T.I. back in the mainstream...this song has everything it takes to be a hit record...Keri Hilson never disappoints! Although this isnt breaking any new ground, its a nice breezy track that is sure to build the buzz for King Uncaged. 4 stars

Definitely a hit. Like I said yesterday on Yeah Ya Know, i dont like the hard TI, i like this kind of TI. For most of Paper Trail, he wasn't trying to be all hard, and that was my favorite album of 08.

Eh, his other singles were superior to this. It kinda sounds like a lesser version of No Matter What.

I'm not feeling this one. It's no where near as good as T.I.'s past singles. I predict moderate radio play but this won't break the Top 20. The hook is pretty wack but I enjoyed the verses. I would have preferred Tip not sing though.
On a sidenote, how many times do we have to hear this same beat? I feel like I've heard this at least 4 or 5 times. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh with my rating but I expect more from the self-proclaimed "King". |

I support TI on damn near everything he does. However this song, I can't get with. It sound too safe to me. Its as if he's trying to recreate a sound that people are familiar with from him. Keri is does her thing on the hook. This song will work for radio and ringtones, but for my playlist, it won't. "Takers" is a much better track.

I've got to review this on two levels. Personally, not really my thing, but in terms of what TI was going for (radio hit) I have to say he's done it yet again. My prediction? This becomes a big hit, but not a super huge f**king hit like Whatever You Like.
You know T.I. still has at least one more big record up his sleeve for the radio, all in time." - DJ Brookllen. I couldn't agree more. We'll hear at least one more made for radio jam, and I've got a feeling it will be even better. |

I think T.I. is trying too hard on this track. Radio would like this for sure. This song is made for Tiny, his boo.

Keri Hilson is one of my favourite sigers now, it's not long before she will be up there with Beyonce and Mariah because I truly believe she is that good. T.I.'s flawless rap technique with Keri Hilson's incredible vocals makes for one hit fans won't be able to get out of their head.
T.I. toasts to his fiancée Tiny and all the down ass chicks who stick by their man's side through thick and thin on “Got Your Back”. Which is why I think this track is SWEET!!. The cadence is similar to “Whatever You Like,” which should have all the ladies bouncing like ecstatic school girls. |

This will blow up the radio in no time, however like many others I prefer T.I’s grittier tracks, but overall this song meets its purpose.

If this song was supposed to be a remake of "Live Your Life" then it most definitely failed in that regard. However, I must admit I am a sucker for jams like this. Keri Hilson has a great voice and combined with the gritty flow of the king of the south, you have yourself a pretty all around decent track.
T.I. had some good verses, but I am still not on his bandwagon. His voice sounded a little distorted in some bits of the song. If anything, this track will succeed with the radio fust for the fact that it is reminiscent of T.I.'s "Live Your Life." This was an all around good track. |
