Man, I love it when artists do my track-reviewing job for me. The latest single from 69 Boyz alumnus Thrill Da Playa is Awesome; case closed! Well… OK, I guess I could write a little more. In contrast to the Jacksonville vet’s first (and, to date, only) Booth feature, the certifiably retro Slide, this joint is cut from a more modern, swaggerrific cloth. Over his and co-producer Mr. Bright‘s upbeat percussion and sizzling synths, the rapper gives himself an extended lyrical pat on the back, celebrating his impeccable swagger, style and mic skill. The track isn’t entirely dedicated to self-aggrandizement, though; listeners get their share of praise as well. On the bridge, Thrill asks us, “Anybody told you you’re awesome lately?” Flattery may get you everywhere socially, but does it work in a musical context? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see! If you think this body-moving track is absolutely… um… terrific, you can look forward to plenty more high-energy jams come August 7, when Thrill Da Player’s User Friendly LP arrives at record stores and online retailers.

There are going to be people that LOVE this record and there will also be people who hate this record. 20 seconds in and its obvious that Thrill doesn't care about anything except having a good time and sharing it with all his listeners. And ya know what? Good for him.
This has Florida club smash written all over it. Trick Daddy, 2 Live Crew, and Pitbull would all be proud.

You have to judge every record by what it was trying to accomplish. This isn't the second coming of NY State of Mind, but Thrill obviously set out to make an openly entertaining track, and by that measure he succeeds. This record's nothing but a good time.
And it's good to see "Awesome" making a come back. We've got a lot of 90s vibes on the site today.

Definitely some club/dance music, but the lyrical content is much more positive than that average crap they play all day. I dunno if I could cruise around to this, but i wouldn't be mad if i heard this when i was getting down on the dance floor.
