There are few artists as qualified to discuss the Life of a Lover than alternative emcee Theophilus London and R&B singer Jesse Boykins III, the duo who brought us steamy collaborative cuts Cold Pillow and Oohs & Ahhs. So, what is it like to get more action than… um… one of those board things you clap shut when you shout, “Action!” at a movie shoot (clever analogy, huh?)? Judging by this mixtape cut, leaked to promote the headliner’s new Hypebeast blog, it’s pretty damned nice. Here, producer Club House provides a a silky-smooth, jazz-sampled beat as London paints a laid-back lyrical portrait of the glamorous life of a playboy. Topped off with Boykins’ equally chill, almost-murmured hook vocals, LoaL should be just the thing to vibe out to during the long, sunny days that lie ahead (frankly, it’s got me in the mood for a nice afternoon nap). Anyway, if you find yourself seduced by this record’s swanky style, keep it locked – Theophilus’ I Want You has yet to receive a release date, but you can rest assured we’ll bring you all the latest.

I've said it before and I'll say it (or in this case, write it) again: Theophilus London is not for everyone. Mainstream-only listeners are not going to be a fan of his left-of-center sound. However, if you are a listener who loves being effected by the music they listen to (good or bad), London is without a doubt an emotionally-evoking emcee.

This is a little too somber for the current weather in Chicago (if you catch my drift), but it falls right in line with everything he's done up to this point.

Theophilus is definitely a creative artist. This didn't blow my mind, but it was a decent offering. The production, hook, and verses were all solid.

I'm not sure if I'm disagreeing with Z here, maybe just revising his words. I wouldn't say that they divide between those who feel London and don't is the mainstream vs. underground divide, but rather a question of temperament. I was raised on the underground, and I definitely respect London's artistic vision, but I'm just too ADD to really vibe with this track. Hopefully that made sense.

It reminds me of Quiet Strom - Blast from the past, with an updated flow. Too bad I ain't feeling the sung bits - perhaps it's cause the mix is mediocre. Give this one the once over and up the PQ and that'd be good for another star at least. But I dig the left of center joints.

I like TL's stuff, this is good but a bit slow for my taste, makes me want to go take a nap... probably not a good thing.

Mood muzik! Something you can just throw on and listen to when you're in
that laid-back zone.

With all the great FEATURES we had this week, this one kinda fell under the radar. The mixing of the chorus doesn't sound right to me, but I'm digging the Jazzy feel.
