The Weeknd - Initiation
Artist: The Weeknd
Producer: Doc McKinney and Illangelo
Album: TBD
Label: Universal Republic
Think you’re a true fan of The Weeknd just because you’ve fallen in love with Drizzy-assisted smash hit The Zone? Not so fast! In order to officially inscribe your name among the ranks of the devoted, you must first undergo the Initiation. What is this Initiation, you ask? As best as I can tell from this cut, newly-released through the T-dot R&B innovator’s Facebook and Twitter, it involves knocking back outrageous quantities of sizzurp, cognac and rum, smoking some piff and snorting a few “Shakespeare lines” of cocaine. Then, after a little slow-grinding, you go back to finish the party at the singer’s place. Then, he’s gonna call all his boys and… uh, let’s just say that recovering from the gauntlet of debauchery Tesfaye described over Doc McKinney and Illangelo‘s hazily lurching production is likely to require some stomach-pump action, several weeks of bed rest and possibly court-mandated rehab. If you’re crazy enough to consider that a good time (or just enjoy hearing about it secondhand), then keep it locked; while it is as-yet unknown whether Initiation will be appearing on XO’s forthcoming Echoes of Silence project, we’ll keep you posted if and when that changes.

The Weeknd is already a crazy listen... and now we get Chopped n Screwed Weeknd? If you're on drugs, or in love and on drugs, this has could very well be your inner soundtrack. If not, its still cool - just not as cool as past song features.

Definitely a very interesting approach. You see, in my opinion, The Weeknd has already doomed himself because he released such an incredible body of work that is "House of Balloons" first. "Thursday" wasn't bad by any means but it was just nowhere near what his debut was. Although, we have to remember that these are just mixtapes, so who knows what he has in store for us on his official debut. As for this song it's definitely got a cool vibe and gets better as it goes on.

Sick beat very different from the average r&b artists range of production!! Huge fan of "the zone" but you couldn't really hear his actual voice in it because of the effect put on his voice. But with this track he showcases his voice rather well!!
Also note: for some weird reason his flow on this reminds me of sisqos "thong song" as he sings very fast but smooth!! Idk maybe it's just me?? |

Interesting song, which I've come to expect from the Weeknd. As interesting and unique his sound is, I'd like to hear a different style song to show his range. This is a little bit different but not as much as I would like to see. Still a banger nonetheless.
