Two weeks ago, DJBooth featured The Roots‘ new track Rising Down. Assisted by Mos Def, Styles P, and Dice Raw, the song set the tone for the group’s upcoming eighth album of the same name, a musical depiction of how our world’s culture is a modern-day Pandora’s box. In Greek mythology, however, opening Pandora’s box doesn’t come with hope; a feeling the septet believes in and will lead to the people Rising Up. Backing up lead MC Black Thought‘s optimism are fellow lyricist (and new Interscope signee) Wale and Def Jam‘s favorite soulful songbird, Chrisette Michele. Rising Up is set to be the final track on Rising Down, which hits stores and online retailers April 29.
This is awesome. The production is great. I love the soulfulness and the drum kit used on this. This is real music right here. And if WOW rates this, you better say you at least respect DIS, because this bangs. The hook is mad chill. This is mature hip hop. I'm only 19, but I've been digging this type of vibe for hip hop for years. That's what sets an intelligent black man from a....well, you know...
This song is why...
1) People love The Roots.
2) Wale signed a major deal at Interscope.
3) Chrisette Michele should have gotten better promotion on her Def Jam debut.
Roots is where it's at! I could bump to this a nice urban lounge. I am lost for words this is fantastic. I can tell that this album is going to be full of magical notes and beats.
This is a real layed back joint and I love how ?uestlove put the Junkyard feel on the beat....D.C. style all day.... Black stands out as always and Wale ripped this one... Dj Z took the words right out of my mouth...If anyone has heard Christte Michele's "If I Had My Way" then you know she's the real deal or any song she has blessed for that matter
This is a very good song here. This is one of those "I need to relax and kick a vibe with my girl and remember the less hectic days" tracks. So many people get caught up in the mind tensing, numbing, dumbing music that they are constantly stressed. Get something that edifies the soul and makes you happy to be alive instead of all this chasing after tail and poppin bottles all the time. Release your mind to set free the soul. This is real hip-hop. I'm loving this track.
O GEEZ darn...i didnt want 2 b da only person give-n DIS a 1...o well, i dont like it and i definatly didnt like da girl whoeva dat wuz....ITS JUST SOOOOOOOO BORING! idk how 2 explain it otha than dat.
Chrisette Michelle: awesome as usual!
I LOVE the Black Thought/Wale duo!!
Even though he's a new cat, Wale is not 'out-shined' by BT at ALLL!
It's like Wale's been in the game for years.
AND....the timing of this song couldn't be better!
Crazy! I love Chrisette Michele. The Roots are a talented group, they always have been and they always will be. Wale is a shocker though, I never expected to hear him on this!
real hip hop, people who rate this lower than 4 dont know what theyre saying, classssic shit. the roots i got all their albums and black thought is my favourite rapper these dudes always doin their thing
