The Roots - 75 Bars (Black’s Reconstruction)
Artist: The Roots
Producer: Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson
Album: Rising Down
Label: Def Jam
Believe it or not, hip-hop has not always been a three verse song (featuring a guest artist) with a sung hook and radio friendly bridge. Although every major record company refuses to push a record with anything but those components, Grammy award-winning band The Roots simply don’t care. On the first leak off their forthcoming eighth studio album, Rising Down, lead vocalist Tariq ‘‘Black Thought’’ Trotter spits 75 straight bars of intense, thought-provoking lyrical fury, over a simply drum pattern courtesy of member ?uestlove. Blacks Reconstruction is one of twelve songs that will be mixed and mastered for Rising Down, set for release on April 29th via Def Jam Records.

What can I say, ?uestlove does his thing on drums and Blackthought spits fire. The rest of the band is pretty nonexistent on this track, but I enjoyed the stripped down feel. As far as I am concerned all of their albums are classics, except for Game Theory which was still light years ahead of these other rappers.

I didn't like the horns in this song. Simple beat with rich lyrics.

Maybe I just don't understand what hip hop is, but he dropped the n-word 39 times in 3:16. That means that on average he uses the n-word every 5 seconds. Real cretive though. The beat sucks too, but then again maybe I don't understand hip hop. By the way he raps about money, his rep, and how much better a rapper he is than everyone else. Still old school though isn't it. 0 stars, but I can't rate it that low.

lol, DJ Mac's comment was pretty straight on. But there is something about this song that just works. I see people on here saying the beat sucks and stuff, but to me, those drums just sound killer.
