Thad Reid - Unholy War
Artist: Thad Reid
Producer: J. Clyde
Album: Unadulterated Reid
Label: Blue Collar Muzik
You know who we haven’t heard from in a minute? DMV repper Thad Reid. You know who we haven’t heard from in a really long minute? Soul songstress-turned-tabloid staple Amy Winehouse. Today, the former returns with a fond reminder of the latter. On new single Unholy War, producer J. Clyde flips a slowed-down sample of Winehouse’s single of the same name into a gritty beat reminiscent of vintage Wu-Tang as the Blue Collar Muzik emcee (and freestyle series contributor) expands upon the source material’s love/war themes. In emotionally-charged verses, the artist addresses a special girl, thanking her for sustaining him through the long and bloody war that is his grind, and assuring her that, “If the military gave me all the pension in the world, I would never go to war…” The sentiment is sure to strike a chord with anyone whose personal hustle has separated them from their nearest and dearest –and the song itself should please anyone with a taste for gritty beats and heartfelt rhymes. Those digging it can look forward to more Unadulterated Reid on the artist’s latest full-length, coming this summer.

One of the best records I have heard from Thad to date... which is impressive considering he has been featured on our homepage a total of 20 times over the last 4 years.

Quality track. Clyde's beat is so smooth, and I like the Winehouse sample. It adds a nice sound to the bluesy track. Reid really holds down the mic, he adds to the smooth vibe to the song. He doesn't try to do to much, he just spits a couple of nice verses. Maybe I'm crazy, but I swear I hear a little Del Tha Funkee Homosapien in his voice. Anyone else get that vibe?

Great combination here with Reid and JClyde. The content of the track is unbelievably relevant for our time, and really highlights the struggle our men and women of service face. Props to JClyde for the instrumental. Props to Reid for giving this struggle a voice.

This beat and Thad Reid are a perfect combination. Thad has a quality to his voice that just really works. I'm about to check out some of his past features. If there anything like this, I'm in for a treat.
