Thad Reid - Same As We Ever Was [Premiere]
Artist: Thad Reid
Producer: Don S. [for Midi Boy Prod.]
Album: Target Practice
Label: Blue Collar Muzik
Owww, the inaugural leak off Thad Reid‘s forthcoming street album, could hardly have been more aptly titled, since it was a massive hit with most of our readers (and getting hit hurts, you know?). With world premiere numero dos, things are slightly less straightforward – while Reid and his collaborators do indeed deliver the lyrical freshness that’s become their par-for-the-course, those looking for a routine, everyday experience may find Same as We Ever Was a disappointment. Don. S, producer of Reid’s last feature, switches his game up dramatically here, cooking up a street-ready synth-brass instrumental as the Blue Collar Muzik rapper and his DMV-based cohorts, Inglorious Beta emcee K-Beta and D.C. buzzmaker RAtheMC, fire off their most potent lyrical ammunition in verses brimming with vivid braggadocio. Think Thad Reid hit the bullseye on this one? Then add his DJBooth-sponsored Target Practice mixtape to your list of projects to download this Tuesday, April 20.

This song falls into the 'get hyped' song category. I would add this to a personal playlist for an early morning run or warmups before a basketball game. Most of the time - and I am totally stereotyping here - 'get hyped' songs don't include any level of noteworthy lyricism. Such isn't the case here as all three emcees (proudly reppin the DMV) display their talents.
While I personally enjoyed "Owww" a little more, "Same As I Ever Was" bangs. |

I can't decide whether I like this beat or not... first verse up and down. hook is crack Ayo...the 2nd guy...I now know who stole SHYNES VOICE. haha you did your thing tho. Ra is dope...i love her flow on this. good track guys. DMV!!! (im from WV, im close enough) |

I agree with REUPSPOT about the beat, its hard to lean one way or the other with it. As a thought provoking lyrical ballad it fails, But that's not what it was meant to do. This song does its job perfectly and thats pump you up. Booming bass, epic synth, mixed with a smooth flow. So the song deserves credit in it's own right.

Just have to say I loved Oww and the production on that one was sick. "Same As We Ever Was" is definitely a song that is all about the word play and truly some solid guest verses.
Thad impressed me again with his wordplay and emotion with his verse. This track is definitely making its way on to my workout mix, a true pump up song. K-Beta put a raw verse down, love his rough voice on this one. It really goes over the production well and adds some appeal to this track. RAtheMC added another solid verse as well. I felt like his and K-Beta's voice really complimented each other. Going from rough to smooth really keeps the track moving in the listeners mind. |

I myself liked the beat. It could use a little something though, not quite sure what it is. The lyrics were alright, not that bad of a song.

Haha I'm not sure what to say about the production on this track. I was boppin' my head though, so lets just go with crazy shit.
Wasn't really that big a fan of Thad's recent material, but this song has me changing my mind. Thad lays down some solid bars. K-Beta, on the other hand, absolutely tears this mother @*#$! to pieces. Damn, his verse matched with this beat was FIRE. RA did a good job. Pretty much expected nothing less when I saw the features. All together, this song is pretty cool. 3.5 |

This is a way different look for Thad from "Owwww" but he wears the hat well. Dope lyrics and hard flow without sounding like hes trying too hard or coming with the same played out gangsta garbage. RAtheMC kinda reminds me of that dude from Pharcyde....

I could see this beat being used for a Nike basketball commercial...but besides the fresh beat each artist brought their own swagger that fits perfectly in this track. The hook is dope and the only thing that falls short for me is when each artist starts their verse the beat kinda loses its luster...but then as soon as the hook comes up it has me getting pumped!

Not feeling the deep horns on this beat but the quick synths that jump in in the middle are really hot. He spits with a good flow, but I feel that the lyrics are a little bit lacking. Owww was indeed a better premier than this, but that doesn't mean this song shouldn't be listened too. However, the features on this song bring down Thad Reid a bit. Not feeling their verses at all. Good for rotation though.

I agree with Z on the basketball comment. As I listened I could visualize hearing it blasting from the speakers at a streetball game. I has just enough of a hype feel to it to get you going & keep you going

Never heard of these cats, but they def. went hard, and yeah this is a banging production, though at times it sounds as if it was made on FL Studio. DMV goin' hard again. Lol at the shyne comment, i don't think he has a similar voice, just similar flow.
