I learned yesterday that we’re living in the Year of the Tiger. I’ve never really looked into the meaning behind the Chinese zodiac calendar, but if it can be translated into “the year of Atlanta” (tigers do reside in Georgia, right?), then I might have to start believing. ATL production duo SMKA are at it again with the latest cut off Volume 2 of their The 808 Experiment mixtape, and so far it sounds every bit as good as the first. The second leak off the project, The Make Believer, features Cincy/Brooklyn crew Tanya Morgan, who demonstrate just how good life can be when you’re one of the most creative groups in the music industry (backed by equally impressive production doesn’t hurt, either). Most impressively, Morgan flows like water on Make Believer, talking about how their talents have gotten them to where they are today: “Yeah from the group with the girl’s name/sweating on a girl’s frame/ doing my one, two/ now you’re stuck in third place.” If this track somehow doesn’t make you a believer, The 808 Experiment, dropping January 18, probably will.

Man, two nights in a row SMKA is KILLIN it behind the boards. First YelaWolf and now our favorite Brooklyn-Cincinnati connection! This bangs from start to finish and should be more than enough to hold people over... until we premiere a brand new joint from the project on Sunday night!

I bet no one's name confuses people more than Tanya Morgan - "yeah I'm from the group with the girl name" - but the insane consistency with which they're turning out dope music will make them a household name before long. For me the chorus kind of sucked the energy out of this song, but it's a small complaint.

Bring on the next SMKA track Sunday!

This is some fire and SMKA is a beast on the boards, but my favorite brooklyn-cinci connection is still Talib Kweli and Hi Tek. It'll be hard to beat reflection eternal, but these guys are workin on it.

"Brooklynati!" was one of my best purchases last year, keen to hear what these guys bring to the table in 2010.
