Tank - Sex Music
Artist: Tank
Producer: Song Dynasty and Harvey Mason, Jr.
Album: Now or Never
Label: Atlantic Records
Having recently signed to Atlantic Records, R&B mainstay Tank is gearing up to drop his currently unscheduled new album, Now or Never, with the release of his new single, the bluntly titled Sex Music (can you guess what it’s about?). Produced by Song Dynasty and Harvey Mason Jr, the beat is simultaneously laid back and a real club banger – if that makes any sense – thanks to the combination of heavy synthesizers with low melodic keys. For his part, Tank hopes to build upon his reputation as an R&B baby maker by expounding on everyone’s favorite topic, getting it on. Unfortunately, I have to say that the lyrical content is pretty average, we’ve heard that play-by-play from the club to the bedroom before, and while Tank can actually sing, for some reason he chooses to use auto-tune, which can get tedious after awhile. Still, I’m sure there will be some out there who hear Sex Music and, well, fantasize about having sex to Tank’s music. So what do you think Booth readers, is this the new go-to jam to get your girl in the mood?

I'm used to hearing Tank on Urban AC radio, so these club-ready snyths might take some getting used to.
I agree with our writer JR in that Tank has such a great voice he didn't need to utilize any vocal effects, but to a degree I understand the allure of its usage in regard to the production choice. The topic might be older than time, but the delivery is engaging enough to be more than entertaining. |

Pretty repetitive in ways but nontheless catchy if you're into it. Not really enjoying it but could see alot of other people lovin' it.

i liked the production and tank's voice but i dont think he projected or displayed his vocal ability enough and as a result was slightly overshadowed by the production. still banging though, only a minor criticism.

This is fresh. Nice vocals from Tank (whose last album i enjoyed), and the production bangs but still calm enough to be played on the AC channels. The beat reminds me of a slower version of "Daddy's Home" lol

Tank!! Nice to see him back! but I have high expectations for him. His writing ability is awesome, but it sure does not show here. His vocal ability is good too. This situation kind of reminds me of Ginuwine trying to make his comeback (Get invovled) and his time had passed. Sex, Love, and Pain was Classic R&B...Not this.

I've heard some great Tank songs over the years, but this isn't one of them. It's not bad, it's just formulaic. The beat, the vocals, the lyrics, we've heard them all before, and unfortunately he doesn't do anything new enough with these time honored traditions to distinguish himself.

i really enjoyed this ish. however, lack of creativity will prob result in this gettin old for me rather quickly. still, not a bad song by any means. 3.5
