Talib Kweli - My Favorite Song
Artist: Talib Kweli
Producer: Statik Selektah
Album: Grand Theft Auto: Statik Selektah's The Lost And Damned EP
Label: Javotti/Caroline
On Tuesday, the 17th, Rockstar Games released The Lost And Damned, their first downloadable episode of Grand Theft Auto IV. The GTA series has become famous for its soundtracks, so it wouldn’t be right to release an expansion without adding a few new jams to the mix. Enter Statik Selektah, who teams up with Talib Kweli on this cut off the six-song soundtrack EP. Though Talib devotes a good portion of his lyrics to gritty descriptions of street life and the systematic injustices that perpetuate inner-city poverty, he acknowledges in his hook that, regardless of how rough things get, all his troubles are washed away, “when I hear My Favorite Song.” Thanks to the emcee’s thoughtful lyrics and Selektah’s mellow, easy-riding beat, this cut is both a relaxing accompaniment to digitized mayhem and an enjoyable listen on its own. The Lost and Damned EP is available now through online retailers.

For years I have thought to myself: "If Talib Kweli and Statik Selektah have a musical baby, what would it sound like?" And then they deliver "My Favorite Song" - which is only on a EP!
Damn. We are all spoiled for having listened to this solid hip-hop record. |

It's great to have so many Statik produced tracks lately! ;) His talent shows even on a simple yet beautiful joint like this. Ending is cool!
Talib's always good, nice delivery and he lived up to the concept with his lyrics. |
