Though few of today’s urban musicians would be caught dead in tight spandex, the decision to forgo the security of workaday life in favor of chasing loftier dreams is, in a way, heroic—at the very least, it takes a level of courage that relatively few possess. tabi Bonney is one of the many big dreamers to take that leap of faith, and, though he hasn’t achieved Superstar-level success just yet, he knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that he’s headed for the top. Recently leaked via the buzzmaking emcee’s Twitter, Nothing But A Hero finds Bonney flexing his nonchalant flow over an ambient, appropriately-spacey string-accented synthscape by Jon Redwine. The rapper’s sky-high ambition comes through loud and clear here, but the overall effect of this cut is a little mystifying; those not distracted by Bonney’s catchy studio-enhanced stutter on the chorus might find themselves wondering who he’s addressing when he says “You are my superhero.” The listener? A love interest? Himself? If Fresh holds the answer, Booth readers will be the first to know—in his recent video interview, he promised to premiere the LP, due out in late August, as a free download at this very site.  Man, this was some good ish. The production doesn't even sound like something for a hip hop track, it's like on some Frou Frou type stuff. Brownie points for creativity and originality. Hot.

Tabi sent over TWO record this morning. Both were featurable, but this just jumped out at me. I actually played this on repeat for 10 minutes. You couldn't find a more talented/humble cat in this business than Tabi. Enjoyable record.

I love to hear stuff like this cuz it pushes the boundaries of what is hip hop. The beat sounds like it was made by Royksopp in the way it manages to be chilled out and funky at the same time. One of my favorites this year.

Really like Tabi a lot. Doesn't get enough credit for his work, IMO and has a lot of untapped potential. Quality track here, production was new and worked well with Tabi.

This was a good track all together, but the only thing that kinda bugged me a little bit was the opening 11111 22222 33333 intro. Kind of annoying to say the least, but this man can without a doubt hold his own on a song. 3.5
