Normally the fact that T-Pain went an entire song without using auto-tune would be news enough, but what’s truly newsworthy about his new track Dope is that it appears to be the first official announcement that Shawnna is now working with Pain’s Nappy Boy label. Shawnna is deservedly known for her lightning fast flows and sexually explicit themes, neither of which are present on Dope, making her verse on the track seem primarily intended as a declaration of label affiliation. (I’ll be surprised if she’s on the official album version). Will Pain continue to put the auto-tune aside and concentrate on his raps? Will Shawna find the success with Nappy Boy that she didn’t with DTP? All questions will be answered when Pain’s next album Revolver drops… sometime in the future.

Pretty "dope" record, I liked the energy on here. In all honesty though, Pain isn't that hot of a rapper. His flow and energy on here was tight, but his rap voice just doesn't keep me too entertained.
This sounds just like a track from his Pre Ringz Mixtape, which isn't very impressive. Shawnna held it down though, glad to see her come hard like she did on "Everybody Drunk." At the end of the day, I can pass on this one. |

I too prefer Mr. Pain with a little hint of Auto-Tune and some snappy production. This was underwhelming on both fronts.
But... good for my Chicago homegirl, Shawnna, who needs to be heard (she is one of only a few female emcees who can actually do the damn thing). |

DAMN!!!! I'm so ready for a new T-Pain Album ....
First-off this is one of the very few T-Pain's track that aren't an instant hit with me but its quite solid for an early leak. Dropping auto-tune better be a calculated move to get some buzz goin. And im quite sure soon he will be back with "it" making hits. T-Pain as usual brings that pump up energy delivering quite a few humorous boastings along but Shawnna absolutely snapped on this and steals the show with her free flowing verse. I'll put this in Rotation. |

Yo, what's going on here? Is Shawnna not with DTP again or is this a joint deal? Someone let me know because if "Battle of the Sexes" is being trashed I'm going to be extremely disappointed. Luda has been out of the mainstream spotlight for too long and I was really hoping the project would bounce him back to his "Yeah!", "Sugar", "Stand Up" days.
Anyways, this song is pretty wack. The beat is decent but Pain's rhymes and flow are pretty terrible. Shawnna was the stand-out here but not enough to save the track. |

I feel like T Pain can make a good track without auto-tune, but I just haven't heard it. This has the right intensity, but this isn't it.

What's up with their voices? I know T-Pain sounded weird 'cause i'm not use to him w/o auto-tune but even my girl Shawnna's voice sounded odd on the track.
I have to agree with most people too, the song is a dissapointment and T-Pain should go back to the R&B sound he had when he first came in the game (I'm Sprung or Bartender). Lyrically he's not wack but he ain't no Rakim either lol. Shawnna for sure brought some needed energy and was the only reason I kept on listening to the song but still couldn't save it. |

My biggest disappointment on the track was Shawnna. I've seen her flow harder and faster than almost any rapper alive, male or female, in concert. But here, she's just, aahhh. If she can ever get that live performance delivery on a record she'll kill em. Maybe Nappy Boy can deliver where DTP couldn't.

T-Pain doesn't sound that good, neither with the autotune, nor without it. I didn't like so much Shawnna, either! But the production is fire, man it is so energetic, I'd like to spread it loud to all the rooms of my house! I think this track could open a club night and bring the right atmosphere ;)

Diggin': Shawnna's guest verse, plus the production might cause a buzz.
Not Diggin': T-Pain's verses & sound...way too early. Good thing he released the official single "Take Your Shirt Off" today...that sounds more like the one we all know & love! For the 300 millionth time, Jay-Z was NOT talking about him on "DOA"-he actually sounds MUCH BETTER with it (It's Ron Browz & Webstar who don't need it and stopped after DOA.) Looking forward to rating "Take Your Shirt Off" on the DJBooth when it hits the site! |

t-pain is a singer, not a rapper. i have no problem with t-pain using autotune. we automatically associate t-pains voice with autotune and it sounds empty without it. autotune is his style, he popularized it, and he should stick with it.

For those that don't know T-Pain was a rapper first. Thats why his first album was Rappa Ternt Sanga(Rapper Turned Singer)
His flow was interesting and he had several oooh snap moments, don't act like it wasn't sick. |

This song is terrible. Shawnna is far better at rapping.
The production is downright shit. T-Pain sucks at rapping. Stick to auto-tuning. |
