After leaving his label home with Ruff Ryders to sign with producer Swizz Beatz and his label, Full Surface, rapper Drag-On hopped into the studio to record two songs for Swizzy’s solo album, One Man Band Man. One made the album (Bust Ya Gunz); the other did not. On the unreleased song, Hard Knocks, both artists remind the phonies that ”if ya soft, get lost”. Although Swizzy’s verses are once again suspect, he continues to excel at his production craft, constructing a beat that sounds like a darker version of Beyonce and Jay‘s Upgrade U. For fans who are enthusiastic over the collabo, Drag-On hopes to release his Full Surface debut later this year.
Drag-On is waaaaay better than anyone ever gives him credit for. He never fully realized his potential; but he has some crazy sick tracks from his previous mixtapes and albums. With that being said, I like this beat and Swizz actually raps pretty decent on here. I like the chorus too. I've never heard Drag rock the mic in this type of swagger before. I am feeling it enough to play it again...
Swizzy needed to rap less and let Drag-On rap more. If DMX had shown up for a verse, though, I might have fallen out of my chair. Glad they cut it off the album.
Drag-on sounding kinda like the old method man the way he flowing with that. I like it though. Swizz is only good for a hook or a small verse. Curious to hear what else Drag-On been working on.
