Swizz Beatz - DJ Play the Beat
Artist: Swizz Beatz
Featuring: Estelle
Producer: Swizz Beatz
Album: Monsta Mondays Series (Week 1)
Label: Monster Music Group
Finally! Somebody was able to get Estelle to break out of her shell. And all it took was a swizzed beat, literally. The British-born singer has allowed herself to be transformed on the brand new song DJ Play the Beat, the first leak in Swizz Beatz’ Monsta Mondays Series. This track finds the producer as we know him best, crafting a traditional Swizz beat with an erratic drum collection and synths; however, this is not at all typical of Estelle, who runs rampant on the track in a more rap-esque sing-song flow, tinted with a Caribbean shade of London. It’s a supremely catchy combination, so with her previous single Freak failing to gain traction, I think this could Estelle’s biggest song since American Boy back in 2008 with that guy…what’s his name?...dude with the Phoenix?? The West kid. Having frequented many of Kanye‘s G.O.O.D Fridays releases, it was only natural that Swizz come into a series of collabs on his own. NOTE: Monsta Mondays Series is Kanye-approved, so trust that you will see the most talked about American, outside of Baracka Flocka Flame, gracing a few songs. Keep it locked for all the latest.

Its refreshing to Estelle sing over production that doesn't sound like a repackaged version of "American Boy."
On a sidenote - I wonder where Swizzy got the idea to do a weekly free-release, online-only music series? |

It's crazy to see how Kanye didn't start the weekly seris but he perfected it and now is influencing more artists to do the same.
As for this song, Estelle was good but Swizz's production was horrible. The voice in the background was annoying and beat was just lackluster. |

Estelle's vocals seem to be mixed terribly, but the song is decent aside from that. And Z, I actually shook my head when I heard Swizz is trying to do what kanye is doing. It just doesnt seem original and may kill the the value of what kanye is doing, if other artists start doing this as well

I don't really see why Swizz is so hyped up to be some amazing artist/producer. His production skills are decent (On To the Next One was on repeat) but his rapping skills are just horrible. This wasn't something I enjoyed. Got repetitive real quick. Estelle didn't bring much to the table.

Don't like either of them usually, no different here unfortunately. A weekly series from Swizzy? You've gotta be kidding... Every week is gonna be a slight beat adjustment (minus a clap or whistle and add a "Showtime")... Leave it to 'Ye

well it should go down well in the UK, im here i'll test it out, buuut, im no sound engineer but i feel like the vocals aint mixed properly or somethin... like this needs to be remastered or touched up.. i dunno. otherwise typical club tune to keep people dancin but would have a bigger tune to drop after in a set.

Hi, my name's Swizz Beatz and I have a problem. I've been making a slightly different version of the same beat for years now and I just can't stop. It's an addiction. I need help.

The production on here is pretty good. Well-done from Swizz. Unfortunately, that's where the goodness stops for me. I have never been a big fan of Estelle, and I don't hear anything on this track that sets her apart from a random girl down the street singing the same lines. This is just OK in my opinion. Would have been Garbage without Swizz.

This was a confusing song. I couldnt get pass that voice in the background. At one point there was so many things going on I just pulled out my headphones.
Estelle has talent and she needs a better avenue to debut it. Swizzy just produce the beat and stop talking over it. You dont need to be hyping on your track for it to be successful. |

Is this really the type of song that the DJ's play?
I don't think so Swizz. It sounds so messy. I wouldn't. |
