“He’s the realest in the game,” Swizz Beatz said in a 2009 interview for MTV. “He was never on no jewelry, no cars. X, he’s one artist that I truly know is a real artist.” 2010 was a year of setbacks for DMX, but the Dark Man is back in 2011 with the encouraging Change Is Gonna Come, off of Swizz’s Monster Mondays series. On Change, sampling connoisseur Swizzy flips Sam Cooke’s classic into an upbeat loop while the dog convinces his fans that he’s back. After DMX sings his heart out in the introduction, which sounds eerily similar to a blender being switched to on, he falls right into his trademark bark-flow calling out the impostors in the rap game and hyping us for his comeback: “You know what it is ‘cause you knew what it was / Let a n**ga go, Imma do what it does.” Fittingly, Change shows us a changed DMX; leaving the dog barks out of this one but keeping the tenacious charisma that his fans know and love. Hats off to the newly clean X. Let’s hope that this change is here to stay.

I expected "Change Is Gonna Come" to be terrible (sorry, the weather is getting to me), but it isn't bad at all. It doesn't hold a candle to Sam's original, and I don't really ever need to hear DMX sing again, but its good to hear the dog again.

DMX is a true artist indeed. This man is real, he has highs and extreme lows. He was always honest about being dark so its no suprise he fell way off.
As for this track, it was better than his recent attempts. I f*cks with it. I think if Ja Rule was on it then it would be a smash. |

He may be one of the "realest" but he really needs to get some drug help and stay clear of the authorities. Then try making some music as good as his old stuff.

First, I'm frankly a little surprised by how much I like this beat. Touching a classic is always risky, but Swizzy pulled it off.
Second, it's awesome to hear DMX rhyming again, hopefully this is just the start, but he's so far from his best it's a little sad. Hopefully he's just shaking the rust off.

It's actually kinda nice to hear DMX again. And this beat works surprisingly well. But regardless, my favorite part of this song is easily the fact that it made me revisit this Sam Cooke album, and repeat this song 10 times today. Maaan, that sh*t BANGS.

Man I can't wait for DMX to get out the joint, he was recently admitted to a mental health institute in Arizona but we all know he is sane. I don't have much to say about his drug use, that's his decision, all I know is that he has been puttin out some hard, thought driven lines lately and I'm lovin it.
