Styles P. - It's Over
Artist: Styles P.
Producer: Ceaser
Album: The Ghost Dub-Dime
Label: Nature Sounds
On the inaugural leak off his forthcoming full-length project, D-Block emcee Styles P. sends a simple message to hip-hop heads across the nation: It’s Over. What’s over, you may ask? Well, for ardent fans of the Northeastern mainstay, the answer is “your wait for fresh new music;” for the haters, however, it’s their very lives that will soon be coming to an end. Backed by the tension-fraught, string-driven production stylings of Ceaser, this cut finds the Ghost’s lyrically aggressive side on full display. In addition to regaling listeners with all manner of colorful threats (“I’ll spray you with some mace and bring you to a quiet place, then beat you 20 minutes in your face…”), he takes the opportunity to inform us that, though he flies under the radar, he is most assuredly getting his paper – and f*** those who would tell you otherwise. Those digging this street-oriented jam can find It’s Over and much more on The Ghost Dub-Dime, due out May 15.

For years SP has been one of the most consistant under-the-radar emcees in the game. Almost everything he has dropped - albums, mixtapes, guest features - has been solid, but yet he always gets outshined coverage-wise by Jadakiss or other lesser-talented NYC emcees.
SP is right on this one... after this, it should be over. |

I completly agree about Styles not getting the respect he deserves. He is more than consistent. I'm hoping his album is also this quality, maybe just a tad better.

I was initially really put off by the beat. I believe firmly that songs shouldn't yell at me...that's why I'm posting here on the Booth and not on some sh*tty death metal site.
But I sure am glad I kept listening to the point where I put this track on repeat. That background voice imparted a sense of quiet desperation that really stuck with me after a while. The rest of the production, with its organ-esque synth and epic horns makes for a diverse yet cohesive beat. The vocals are excellent, as many have pointed out. It's extremely...umm...confident, as evidenced by that Listerine line. It's intense while remaining fluid. Great stuff. This sounds real fresh, and you should check it out. @Z and my fellow Boothers, can you recommend any more sick tracks from Styles? I'm checking the back catalog on the Booth now, but I'd like to get your input. |

The production by Ceaser is amazing including the hook. It's a good consistency of a fresh beat with an interesting but not overly annoying hook.
Now to talk about Styles P....Well I mean I never really have anything bad to say about him. He just always does what he is supposed to and that happens to be killing it on the mic. He is a very talented rapper and I always know I'm gunna get some good verses when I listen. Lyrics are on point too! I hope he gets more recogniction with this track! |

I am putting my hometown pride aside. The belly hunger is super serious on this track. Styles doesn't disappoint on this. I am a sucker for a manipulated hook and gritty lyrics. The beat is the perfect bed for Styles to lay his lyrics on. One thing I love about Styles is although that he came from The Lox, he can damn well hold his own. Has been since they separated and still continues. May 15th is going in the calendar. It's Over!

Production reminds me of "Did You Wrong" by MIMS. Good track. I'm not sure if Styles P is as underrated as you all say he is, but he definitely doesn't get the recognition he deserves.

Styles P hold his own on the lyrical end with the familiar grim content, but Ceaser's unsparing concoction is too powerful against above-average rhymes, and as always hard-but-not-rough delivery style of StylesP. All I mean is, I like the beat tad bit better. Rotation fa sho!

I think SP compliments Jada like no other but I understand that he doesn't want to be in his shadow. Sick production, the chorus is decent and doesn't last long enough to annoy so thumbs up. 4.5 but rounding up to bring up the average because this is fire.

I believe I wrote this on the last Styles P track, but I realized recently that I've been sleeping on Styles for years. If you only listen to his surface level rhymes you may not come away impressed, but the man's got deceptively intricate lyricism and his delivery's always on point. Banger status.

The production on this epic. Caesar laced this track up with some definite banger material. I really enjoy the little sample in the background "It's Over." That was some hot shit.
Styles did this track justice. I really enjoyed all of his verses. Heres hoping that "Ghost-Dub Dime" is a huge success. |

Im a HUGE Jkiss fan. And Styles isnt too far behind him. I think. He killed it, but the beat felt like it was missing an orchestra that would blow your speakers, it wouldve sounded DOPE.

Styles has always had consistency on everything he's ever dropped. He hasn't ever been that well known though and doesn't make a lot of noise in the game. I enjoy his music a lot and believe if people actually give him a spin they will like him too. The beat goes hard and styles drops another consistent deal of verses. Good consistent song.

This gets 3 stars for the beat alone, this is some crazy production. I think any rapper would find it hard to look bad on this track; Styles P carries the song through with song hard lyrics.

In 2006, I was a fan of Styles P, with the album "Time is money". I never understood why he didn't blow up, but this is sure to put him on the map again.
A good production always helps: those epic strings on the background create the perfect mood for a come back of a warrior! That "Over" sample is creepy but catchy! @grimm: you might wanna check "Real Shit" and the whole "Time is money" album. |

He's been on my radar since featuring on Akon's "Blown Away" which is lyrically Akon's best track in my opinion.
