Steve Liriks - Fix You
Artist: Steve Liriks
Producer: Jobe
Album: Lazy Boy Syndrome
Label: Mass Hysteria Werx
It goes without saying that an emcee who calls himself Steve Liriks is serious about his pen game but, as is often the case, the name only tells part of the story. In addition to doing beautiful things with the written word, the Californian up-and-comer boasts a strong singing voice and a progressive pop sensibility – both of which he showcases on his first Booth feature. Bearing absolutely no relation to Coldplay’s hit of the same name, mixtape standout Fix You instead sees producer Jobe drawing upon electronic group Télépopmusik’s ‘02 single Breathe. Over the French trio’s alternately dreamy and intense synth textures, Liriks tries to convince a girl who’s scared of love that he’s not out to break her heart: “What I gotta do to prove to you that I’m not like dudes? / When I say I’m not like they, that sound just so cliché / What I gotta say to you, to make you put the walls down?” Topped off with the artist’s own chilled-out hook vocals, Fix You is just one of many fresh tracks to be found on Liriks’ Lazy Boy Syndrome LP, released in late May and out now online.

If you listen to Liriks "Lazy Boy Syndrome" LP, and try to pick out one cut over another as the "stand out," you'll have a real hard time. We narrowed down the track list to three songs, flipped a coin, drew straws and settled on "Fix You." Our methods might be unmusical, but the end result (this feature) is well deserving. Welcome to the Booth, Steve.

After the first 2-3 listens, Jobe's layering and feel is why I have opened my ears more to Global and Foreign production. Liriks comes with it! One of the better "Love Songs" I have heard in ages. He doesn't come off corny like how Drake can sometimes. His flow, heart-felt verbiage, and cadence keeps you locked in along with the synths. We want more!!!

The beat is absolutely dope and i can't definitely relate the lyrics "what I gotta do to prove to you i'm not like dudes" is true and i know many people who are in that situation

You can't have a name like Liriks and not come with it on the mic, and thankfully Steve delivers here. This has that 80s-ish sound, but doesn't go overboard and balances things nicely. Throw a tighter hook on this and I'm completely sold.

I instantly thought of The ILLZ after that intro sample (My Public Apology video). This took an obvious but enjoyable turn from that storyline as Liriks is trying to figure out his girl rather than justify himself. Anyways, this track is out of the box, in a good way.

I'm not saying its not a good song, i just have a hard time trying to find a day or situation I'd like to play this one. To me this track doesn't seem like its playable enough on a daily basis.

Sensational work from from Jobe here. But somehow I feel that this tracks lacks, and that is the only reason that prevents me to rate it with A.
