Sterling Simms - Coo Coo
Artist: Sterling Simms
Featuring: Maejor Ali
Producer: Bei Maejor
Album: Untitled (TBD)
Label: RCA
OK, first things first: did anyone else read the title of this track and feel an immediate craving for Cocoa Puffs? I mean, Krispies are objectively the best Cocoa-based cereal (sorry, Pebbles fans), but… wait, what was I talking about again? Oh, right: Coo Coo, the latest single from Philadelphia R&B singer Sterling Simms. The One Recording/Def Jam singer’s first feature since December ‘08, this cut finds Simms paying tribute to a female who can reduce him to baby-talk in the bedroom (and vice-versa). Artist/producer Bei Maejor (whose latest single, Gamez, is also featured tonight) mans the mixing boards, backing the headliner with mellow percussion and harp-like synths as well as contributing guest vocals on the record’s hook. If you’re, uh, Coo Coo for this track, stay tuned; Sterling Simms’ forthcoming album, the follow-up to ‘08’s Yours, Mine & the Truth, has yet to receive a title or drop date, but we’ll be sure to keep you supplied with the latest news and tunes.

Its safe to say we can point the finger at R. Kelly and The-Dream for the creation of a song like "Coo Coo." Heck, its dripping wet with their musical influences. Which, for the most part, is a good thing. Though the song lacks any originality or individual style, Simms vocals are breezy and certainly radio ready.

It's a straight track, nothing too special. I love the production though.

hahahaha, I love the production too. Definitely reminiscent of R. Kelly and The-Dream.
The somewhat nonsensical hook is kinda annoying to me. This should be able to find some chart success if it manages to hit mainstream radio. At least there's no over-sprinkling of Auto-Tune for the radio, so that's a good thing. |

Definitely a product of Kells, The Dream, and Usher. Not feelin' the title and hook, but the production was on point. The song sounds kinda like a joke went they get to the "Coo Coo" part in the hook. Great singing though, just don't want to hear him say he's "Coo Coo", and that he's gonna make a baby in the same sentence.

I like just about everything about this track...except the hook. Good lord, what were they thinking? There's only one man on Earth who could pull off a hook like that, and his name is Sylvester Kelly. Replace the hook and you've got a top ten hit.
