Oakland, California, up-and-comer Sterlen Roberts boasts the pedigree—he’s the son of a Grammy-nominated producer/writer—and the experience—artists like Flavor Flav and Keyshia Cole have requested his tunes—to make it in the biz. Sterl’s branching out a bit, though, with the release of his new single, My Girl. Bright synths and airy backup vocals from producer Pete Brown, keep the song youthful, as Sterl proudly shows off his girl to his friends. The young rapper knows he’s got the flyest chick on the scene and he can’t help but show off his enthusiasm for her, but Sterl’s head is still in the rap game. His debut album, The Eulogy of Sterlen Roberts, will be available soon.
Every song that Sterlen's camp sends my way convinces me more and more dude has what it takes to blow. The feel of the song will draw comparisons to what Dream/Tricky are also doing, but Pete and Sterlen deserve to drive in their own lane with this catchy number.
gotta agree with ya BDF44...somethin' aint right...the chorus is "off" or out of place...and not sung all that well...and dont match the beat...sumthin'...i dunno
the ay in the background instantly reminded me of the dream but i like the hook more than the actual verse like to the point that i dont want to listen to his verses. just the hook.
I WANT ALL DJ'S TOO READ THIS MESSAGE , WERE BREAKING THIS RECORD NATIONAL , THIS STERLEN ROBERT'S " MY GIRL " IS GONNA BE A HUGE RECORD , MARK MY WORD AND DON'T BE SCARED TOO BREAK A HIT RECORD IN THE MAKING .. DJ MANIAKAL - MIXSHOW BLAST DJZ / HITT BREAKA DJS " WILD 94.9 "
Yah that "ay" in the backgrund sound ja like the Dream, and the beat pushes it alot towards the dreamish feel.
But definitly not on the same level as dream at all.. kinda sounds like a bad fo-dream. the beat sounds too disney channel, and the vocals sound a lil strange to me.
This is fair nice, i dunno why, but everything Roberts comes out with i like, no he aint the best lyricist, but the songs messages are always very positive and he seems to have a bit of a swagger about it, chorus is good and the beat is nice.
