Steph Jones - B E A utiful
Artist: Steph Jones
Producer: Steph Jones, Pascal Guyon
Album: Imperfect Me EP
Label: Unsigned
Since Autotune-drenched club cut Galactic 2 hit our front page back in December of ‘09, up-and-coming singer Steph Jones has been a busy man – in addition to playing a major role on Breathing Underwater, an ABC miniseries-based on singer/songwriter Maria Digby’s latest LP (fans can check out clips here and here), the Texan buzzmaker has been hard at work on a brand new EP. Today, Jones is back on our frontpage with lead single B E A utiful, a track which finds him paying soulful sung and rapped tribute to a female who’s radiant inside and out. On the production tip, the artist and co-producer Pascal Guyon keep things moving with sizzling synths and upbeat percussion, along with a catchy central keyboard riff that fans of ‘80s New Wave will recognize as an homage to A-Ha’s Take on Me. To make a long story short, this joint’s pop appeal is through the roof; if you’ve been won over by B E A utiful‘s upbeat vibe, keep it locked for the latest on Imperfect Me, which has yet to receive a release date.

Just flew back into Chicago this evening, so I'm going to have to be brief...
Mad catchy (as Richard mentioned in his write-up above) and will certainly have a home in the club and at radio if DJs wake up and take a chance on a talented cat. |

This is the track that finally gets me off my butt to make a comment...
Main impetus for comment: I feel the quality of production for songs has been on the rise recently while singers/rappers have had a hard time keeping up. Jones takes a good stab at it. The chorus could use some work, but I feel the main star here is the track he's trying to catch up to. Something that I'm feeling more and more nowadays... For this track specificially, per above, production is definitely on point, nice flow and very danceable. I'm digging the nod to "Take on Me" as well. The chorus could use a bit more aggression. I lose it a bit there. Other than that slip up and ole Jones being beaten by his own beats, it's a solid track. Definitely download-worthy. |

if the production among other musical talents Steph Jones displays here doesnt get him signed, i will be shocked. this song is a hit and labels should know this and be willin to bank on this guy. i look at this guy and see money signs if he is able to produce and sing as catchy as this.

Speaking of '80s references, is that a "Mannequin" reference in the photo? God that flick was crazy.
This is one of those "I may not admit it to my homies, but when I'm alone I'm nodding my head to this" tracks. You know what I'm talking about. Pop music at it's finest. |

I dont see what most of you are talking about. Its a generic dance record. Because it can compete with the current pop records on the market ppl will lower their standards on music and accept it as a "hit". I dont understand how ppl wonder how in the world he isnt signed either. It makes sense that he would get signed b/c thats the direction radio is in, but c'mon. I know so many artists, many who grace the DJ Booth charts, that have so much more talent and potential and will never get recognition. Personally i think to be making a living off of music you have to spend the proper amount of time writing and perfecting your craft, not sh*tting out "im looking for a girl tonight" songs that are a dime a dozen. But thats just me!

This track is way hard right now. The old style references is sick. It does sound a lot like some other stuff but, the hook takes it away. It's a nice mesh. It's dope.
