Good news!!! After what feels like more than decade of waiting I finally have a new single from Stat Quo’s epically delayed album Statlanta! Sorry, I’m just messing with you. Other than Ghetto USA we still don’t know what the prolific ATL emcee’s album will sound like, but in the meantime he’s putting in overtime to keep eager fans satisfied with new mixtape tracks like Ridin’. Produced by the elliptical Focus…, who here flips Dr. Dre’s classic Next Episode beat, sharpening the original with some well placed snares, Ridin’ is, of course, Stat’s show as he drops the kind of precisely cadenced and cleverly worded flows that have earned him a sizable following on the Booth. But maybe I’m riding alone in my appreciation for this track? Maybe the Booth feels differently? If so, please, let me know. Stat’s new, Dr. Dre influenced mixtape 2010 is set to drop this Friday. As for Statlanta, we’re being promised it will finally hit our eardrums on June 22 (knock on wood).

Do you think that when Stat made that cameo in the Beats by Dre commercial with HP that they talked about the conception of this record? Not important, I digress (just sharing my random thoughts with you all).

You cannot NOT like the production because its essentially a Dr. Dre produced track with subtle, yet enjoyable improvements by Focus and Stat is as engaging as always.

A solid mixtape track... but where is the album? June 22nd better stick; this is YEARS of waiting finally coming to an end.

Really enjoying the production, and it really mixes well with stat quo's voice. It's been a long time since i've head stat quo, but he doesn't disappoint.

Dope sample of a west coast classic! Will be sure to add this to the music library.

Rappers take a chance when they decide to flow over classic beats such as this. Does Stat Quo perform up to his predecessor's ability? Not quite, but he isn't far from the same level of lyricism if you ask me.

Stat came with some nice verses and the hook was bearable. Far from a classic, but worth a listen nonetheless.

Man this track goes hard. The instrumental is has a subtle yet impressive remix. Its always good to be a little different from the orginal. The verses are crazy and with the flow to match this song. Banger!

Another obvious sample selection, i'm not a fan of this obvious rips off classic joints. i listen to the original tracks daily, how can I give this guy points for somebody who clearly did it better before?

This production is so solid that I could barely focus on Stat Quo. I wasn't overly impressed with the verses Stat dropped and am left feeling let down wondering if this was something that was really worth waiting for? Not even the chorus could have saved his dull verses. I hope his mixtape has better material than this. This song gets placed in rotation just because of its production. I'd love to hear an established rapper throw a few lines over this beat and show him how it's done.

Honestly, this mostly just reminds me of how unbelievably dope the original Dre beat is. Will Detox finally drop before the 2012 apocalypse? The race in on.

As for Stat, he didn't blow me away with this, but it's nothing to hate on. Solid performance. From the A to LA!

I was like "I don't see whats so great about this" Until the 2nd verse when the snares kicked in and his flow picked up. This song is heat

I would have preferred that Stat had just rapped over the ORIGINAL Dre beat (which is "Still D.R.E.", btw Nathan. NOT "Next Episode"). This flip is really annoying and honestly, any producer could have made the same thing.

I remember like three years ago when "Like That" came out and I was like "This dude is SICK!!!" and then his album never came out... DAMN the Interscope/Aftermath/Shady camps for horrible artist development outside of the three headed monster (Em, Dre, 50).

The beat is nice, not that original though. The rapping from Stat Quo is alright. Doesn't keep you interested.

@The 149th - Did you read the above feature article? The concept behind the new project is inspiration from Dre songs. He wasn't trying to hide the sample.

I like that his flow changes a bit during the second verse but other than that I'm not gonna bump this. I guess I can't get past the sampled beat. Just way too obvious, borderline annoying.

There is no denying that this beat was and still is sick. I wasn't really liking Stat Quo's flow till his second verse, like a few people have already said.

Damn! someone went overboard with the sampled loop. This is work of a beginner. Damn!

And Stat Quo leaves many things desired when it comes to his part. His lyrics are average at very best on here... 1.5
