Stat Quo - More Explosive
Artist: Stat Quo
Producer: Lyr1kz
Album: 2010 Mixtape
Label: Big Dream Ventures
You know, I was going to illustrate how long fans have been waiting for Southern emcee Stat Quo‘s debut studio album by comparing Statlanta to El Dorado, the legendary city of gold that’s eluded explorers despite centuries of futile searching. Instead, I think I’ll just cut to the chase and say it’s been a really long time. While the LP is still a few months away (so we are told), there is an official prelude mixtape on the horizon – the first leak off which, More Explosive, recently hit the net. Contrary to what the bombastic title may suggest, this cut is a smooth, mellow, and downright soulful affair, which finds the A-town rapper joining forces with hook singer Antonio Mclendon over the laid-back R&B boardwork of Lyr1kz . Stat burns plenty of pent-up energy on the lyrical tip, spitting bars laced with swaggerriffic boasts and movie references (“Batman – I’ll make your life a dark night.”). So, readers, does SQ still have what it takes to ignite the fuse to your heart? If so, you’ll want to mark your calendar for the April 12 release of his new street album, the concisely-titled 2010 Mixtape.

When a song title includes the word "Explosive" you'd assume that the sound of that record come across as at least somewhat explosive, right? Well, explosive this is not. But, it is pretty darned catchy. For me the production work is the stand out aspect here, but credit to Stat and hook singer AM for their enjoyable vocal contributions. Not album material... but that is why it made a mixtape.

Definitely thought the production was the high point as well, but Stat definitely was decent and the hook was a good fit. Rotation.

Production is the highlight, Stat & the hook sounded good, though nothing brilliant. Good choicce for a placement on a mixtape.

Z's right, couldn't have possibly been a more misleading title, especially when the production's a flip of the same sample Erykah Badu used on Bag Lady. Honestly, I'm digging the beat and the hook more than the verses, but it's still audio quality.

It's a more laid back Dr. Dre track "explosive." But for Stat Quo this is a better track that I've heard him on. Though he is following in footsteps of others, it's still a somewhat respectable track in consideration of the artist. Rather seen him with Shady records, because he'd have blown up. Leaving because of delay, is really going to hurt this artist.

as Z, Gstan and others have mentioned, the highlight of this track has to be the production which i thought was explosive. the hook was decent but the verses left a bit to be desired imo

Quite average track with equally average rhymes. Hook tries... but still okay at very best.

Honestly I don't like this at all. If you have heard Dr. Dre's "Xxplosive" you will understand. Everything is a downgrade from the original.
