When he first signed with Eminem and Dr. Dre to Shady/Aftermath in 2003, Stat Quo was ready to release his debut album, Statlanta. Fast-forward to 2008 and, unbelievably, the project still has no set release date. Detailing detailing of the last five years through a freestyle over Just Blaze‘s Dear Summer beat (originally used by Jay-Z on Memphis Bleek‘s 534), Stat starts at his signing day and covers his frustration over the constant delays, as well as labelmate and neighbor Bobby Creekwater getting inked to the label. While it’s unknown whether or not Stat will get his shine any time soon, Dear Summer (Pt. 1) reveals an inside look at an artist who has made a home on his label’s back burner. There’s a reason why more and more emcees are going the independent route; a Dear Summer Pt. 2 might lead him in that direction.
Decent, not as hot as Jay's version. Stat Quo deserves a shot to blow up, hes been on the radar forever now. I just dont think this has much energy or creativity.
I have known Stat for 4 years now and the man has done nothing but put a smile on his face and continue to make new music in hopes of releasing this album. This freestyle reminds me of Bun B's UGK tale on "THE STORY" off his first solo project. Can't go wrong w/ a Just Blaze instrumental.
I love this beat. Jay killed it. So does quo. It's good to hear his story and know that he is still grinding it out. Dre at time focuses on one thing and one thing alone and his artist tend to take a back seat or end up walking.
I've heard some great versions of this song (Of course the original by Jay, and then "Dear Fall" by Lupe Fiasco). Stat Quo has never been on my radar recently, not ever since "Call Some Girls" featuring Kanye West & Chamillionaire. This is pretty flame though. I like the storytelling. I'll throw this in rotation. Sincerity is definitely in attendance.
Not bad, but he's capable of better. Cadence and overall execution coulda been a lot stronger. Best of luck to Stat though. Lookin' forward to the album (hope he gets rid of that "Double Bubble" bullshit).
THIS IS A SHAME! Shady records should be ashamed of themselves for not taking advantage of this HOT NEW and ORIGINAL flow of Stat Quo! Quo is soooo GANGSTA its not even funny. His flow is one of the best in the game! I have been pushing for him since 2003. Love the unorthodox flow! So sick and He kills it on this beat explaining his story. PLEASE RELEASE This album for a true G! He deserves it for his patience and just the fact that he is an ILL MC! Go get the mixtapes in the meantime and wait for the fire that is STAT QUO! Peace!
Somebody call dre and Em and ask them what the hell they waiting for with this Stat album...Ive been liking him on the mixtapes and freestyles but i wanna see if he's as good on LP's...I like all the topics he brings up too, from his personal life to his business views...
Ummm... Sorry Dj Blaze... BUT i dont think hes all that good... this is like the best ive heard him do tho... but um... when u do this beat i have no choice but to compare u to Jay...and it doesnt compare... i Like His Attitude tho
