St. Lunatics - St. Lunatics
Artist: St. Lunatics
Producer: Wyshmaster
Album: City Free
Label: Derrty Ent./Universal Motown
Back in Y2K, when Nelly was enjoying the success of his debut album, Country Grammar, and his St. Lunatics were getting ready to drop their own major-label debut, group member City Spud was sentenced to 10 years in prison for first-degree assault. Soon afterwards, the group began to campaign for his release, even naming that debut album Free City. Seven years and a few Platinum hits later, City’s been released, and the Lunatics are gearing up for their sophomore LP, the aptly-named City Free. Their new, self-titled single has no need for a hook or a fancy name. Ali, Kyjuan, City Spud, Nelly, and Murphy Lee spit some of their most lyrically-driven verses to date over a brass-heavy beat courtesy of producer Wyshmaster, once again joining forces to form the Midwest’s foremost hip-hop Voltron. City Free should make a strong regional impact when it drops this summer—just in time, perhaps, for the St. Louis Cardinals to host this year’s All-Star Game…?

WOAH haven't heard these guys in a minute. The beat...is...oh my god...this beat...
The verses however...pretty meh. Apart from Murphy and Nelly of course...they should drop the rest of the scrubs. Wish I could give a half star 3.5/5 |

Huh??? The St. Lunatics are still alive??? I mean I've heard from Nelly...but as for Murphy and the rest of the crew...uhhhh...not so much. Anyways good track to start the transition back into the rap game!

I like the production on here. It has been a while since I've heard from these guys, but they didn't disappoint on here. Everyone was solid on here, with Nelly standing out the most to me. 3.5 stars for this, I'll round up.

Murphy Lee needed two verses, haha. Nice to know that St. Louis hip hop stays active.
Sidenote: After Nelly's last album, I am truly amazed that Universal Motown is attempting to create buzz with a second Lunatics album. But hey - we'll take it. |

This beat is pretty hot, and I'm glad to see the Lunatics back at it, but I agree wit ReturnOfSantana that their verses could be better. They weren't bad, but they weren't all that interesting either. I've always liked Murph better than Nelly and all the others, but even he could have came harder on this. I actually liked dude on the 3rd verse best on this. In rotation, tho.

crazy hot beat. It's sooo hot, I just let the verses fade in the background. They aren't bad, but not memorable. Banger!

This is pretty solid. Nelly KILLED his verse & it was probably better then half of his stuff on Brass Knuckles. Murphy Lee also came pretty hard as well. The rest were average

That picture is mighty. This is catchy. I can see people chanting this at a concert, but its not something I'll be screaming myself though. Solid

Feelin this joint right here, bringin back that rap crew rap that I love. Although some of the members are merely amateur, Murph and Nelly hold it down. With all of them though, it makes everybody sound better and Wyshmaster has an anthem right here in the production. Really like this joint, hopefully they can keep puttin out heat like this.

I think everyone who hears this song can agree that the best part of this song is the beat...it's straight fire. other than that...it's ok. Couple verses bangin, but nothin really special.

The highlight of this track was Nelly's verse. Then Murph's. The others couldve came hotter tho. The beats straight sometimes the hardcore trumpets get annoying but for the most part its straight. In rotation for me

@coopdv - I know he only had one verse; that is why I typed "Murph needed two verses" - as in, I wish he would have replaced someone else's verse.
But hey, I'm glad you're taking the time to read the feedback thread! |

This one of the hottest joints that I have heard on the booth Nelly really did kill it and Murphy Lee ripped it as well I can't wait until they drop the album Nelly should have came this hard on his own cd.

This beat is really corny to me. It sounds like something from 10yrs ago for real. The first dude doesn't rap very well. Murphy Lee is the highlight of the track. He can always spit! Nelly sounds pretty good too. I'm just not feeling this track much overall. Something is missing...

I'm glad to hear Spud on a track again after bein locked down for so long. Being from STL I'm just glad to hear a Tics track that doesn't scream, "This is for the clubs!" Who knows, this may force radio here to "modify" their formats a little...

Its about time damn its been a minute. man free city used to be my sh*t im excited the tics are commin back... the songz they do 2gether always seem to be better then the solo ones, i mean look it up. anyways its a straight banger nelly and murph killed it and im happy to hear city spud rap again since... ride with me...he was decent.. djblaze said the track is missing something.. its the hook.. the song wont blow up without a hook, but then the verses are 2 long, it would be a 6 min song, but i dont know i still like it...

It's a solid song and I'd throw it in rotation, but I don't know if I'd put it in my mp3 player. It lacks nothing I think, it has a catchy beat, a good music and their flows are great...but...after a while it gets kinda repetitive! It's what I don't like. I need songs to change, otherwise I get tired of them quickly!

First time commenting on this site. I've always loved to read these comments but hesitated to make an account. Anyways, nice song. Nice to see these guys back together on a banger. The beat's a 5 for sure. The verses are nice too, I'll give em a 4. Murphy Lee was my favorite, followed by Nelly. I rate it a 3 just cuz there's no chorus.

agressive, heavy production, good verses, good and great artists... this is gonna be a hot track on the radio and streets. And Z i agree, Murphy went hard but im having a feeling that Universal needs to think twice on this one.
