Square Off - Show Off
Artist: Square Off
Producer: 9th Wonder
Album: Money Moet & Memories EP
Label: Square Off Records
The phrase “Square Off” may evoke images of boxers scowling at one another from opposite corners of a ring, but don’t get it twisted – as evidenced by their laid-back Booth debut, Trips, Slim and Gleamz are more lovers than fighters. Respectively the sons and brother-in-law of the great Doug E. Fresh, the trio do the rapper/producer/human-beatbox proud on newly-leaked EP cut Show Off. Flowing over the silky, bell-driven sample work of North Carolina native 9th Wonder, the threesome indulge in some witty lyrical stunting, flaunting their mic skills, their taste in whips and (last, but by no means least) their prodigious female appeal. Assisting on the guest tip is Harlemite R&B singer and Pharrell Williams protege Teyana Taylor, who brings the record home with some fittingly luxuriant chorus vocals. So, Booth readers, has all of Square Off’s showing-off paid off? If this braggadociously smooth banger leaves you craving more, you’re sure to find more to your liking on their Money, Moet & Memories EP, set to hit the ‘net for free download January 11.

It is quite hard not to sound good over 9th Wonder, right? Well, Square Off does just fine. Nice introduction to our readers. I am anxious to hear what the rest of their new EP sounds like (without 9th behind the boards).

This track was solid all around, but nothing made me say "Wow". The guys spit nicely over a pretty good beat from 9th wonder, we'll see what else they have up their sleeves.

My first time hearing Square Off, and I have to say I'm impressed. I never get tired of solid rhymes and a smoothed out chorus, and this one's got back in large supply. Nicely done.
And shout out to Z for getting a shout out. |

9th Wonder stole the show with his production and each emcee came with solid rhymes that had me fro start to finish. A nice well rounded track.
