Spree Wilson - Transition
Artist: Spree Wilson
Producer: Paolo Sheehy
Album: The Never Ending Now
Label: Unsigned
After indie-pop banger I Believe She’s Lying and the soulfully subdued Don’t Pass Me By, some may have forgotten that Spree Wilson‘s not just a skilled singer, but also a Southern rapper. Today, the Evil Angel returns to refresh your memory with Transition, a tuneful track chronicling his coming-of-age in the industry. Paolo “Shoeden1” Sheehy reprises his role behind the boards, blending mellow bass, acoustic-guitar strumming and a laid-back bassline into a warm instrumental backdrop for the artist’s bouncy flows. Lyrically, Spree keeps things fresh and unpredictable, addressing himself in the third-person on verse one and dropping what may well be rap’s first Naked Lunch reference on the back. On the hook, the headliner is joined by a fellow ATL-based musical chameleon; Booth fave (and freestyle series alum) Novel hops on board to contribute some characteristically luxuriant vocals to the chorus. Like what you’re hearing? Then keep it locked for all the latest on Spree Wilson’s The Never Ending Now LP, which has yet to receive a release date from the Jive brass.

Its fitting that Novel is featured on Spree Wilson's new song since Novel is the reason we are familiar with Mr. Wilson in the first place. Separately the two artists only know how to make good music. Together, they create great music.

Ever sense the first time i saw Spree Wilson, i was an instant fan of him. At first, i was sure that this dude was just another B.o.B. wanna be, but after some time he has proven that he is all by himself. He isnt B.o.B. he is Spree Wilson. And Spree makes great music, not as good as B.o.B. but still. This song is really catchy and an enjoyable listen. Having Novel in this was a great idea, he fits perfectly in this. The production in this is really great from Paolo Sheehy.

I like this record a lot. Reminds me of some vintage Outkast. First verse is crazy. i think he is speaking on BOB... "niggaz bit your style, but keep that smile, there's no hatred here" . Lots of people say that BOB changed it up once he saw Spree perform back in the day over in ATL.

This is one of the best tracks I've heard in a long time. Spree Wilson mixes modern day hiphop lyrics in with a laid back beat. This guy knows what he's doing and is bound to make his way to the top
