Sound Fx - Anywhere But Here
Artist: Sound Fx
Producer: Da and Maddy Mcfly
Album: Still Dreaming (Re-Release)
Label: Golden Dreams Creative Group
Whether they’re unraveling the emotional subtleties that accompany no-strings-attached flings or facing up to the facts of human mortality, Riverside, California twosome Sound FX are all about tackling the real-life complexities that other rappers gloss over on their way to the next punchline. On new single Anywhere but Here, Maddy McFly and Dupree continue in that vein, delving into the everyday frustrations experienced by musicians who don’t live in a major metropolis, and lack the necessary overhead to lay down roots in a new locale. Over Da and Mcfly‘s understated piano chords and midtempo percussion rhythm, the emcees perfectly capture the sense of stasis that comes with being stuck in a place you’ve outgrown: “Searching for a place to rest now / ‘cause the bed I have, my feet hang off the edge now…” Needless to say, the Booth’s resident rap hopefuls (especially young ones) will find their struggles all-too-relatable. If this down-to-Earth banger strikes a chord, you’ll undoubtedly find more to like on the tweaked re-release of debut project Still Dreaming, dropping August 31. In addition, fans should keep it locked for details on Sound Fx’ forthcoming follow-up, Still Dreaming II.

Solid record. Nothing spectacular going on here. A little on the short side, but intriguing listen nonetheless. Also, I am a big fan of the cover art. Take me to wherever that photo was snapped.

When producer & emcee alike commune together and come up with something like this, it means they've found something special. This is amazing.

Came here because of the cover, and I'm kinda glad I listened. His voice and flow almost bored me, but his emotional lyrics kept my attention. I really like his last verse, specifically:
"Once we take off, keep your hand out and we'll see which one I grab" Beat was simplistic, which I think is fitting for this song. |
