Soulja Boy - Play Ball
Artist: Soulja Boy
Featuring: Drake
Producer: Boi-1da
Album: DJ Woogie & DJ Neptune Present: Paranormal Activity Mixtape
Label: ColliPark/Interscope
Ok, so here’s how this is going to go down. If you’re a teenage girl you’re going to hyperventilate over the new Soulja Boy and Drake track Play Ball, plus probably make it your new ringtone and opening track on your MySpace page. If you’re an old school hip-hop head you’re going to take one listen to Play Ball and think it’s the latest sign of the impending hip-hop apocalypse. Personally, I can identify much more with the latter group: the auto-tuned production by Boi-1da is aggravating, Drake loses some of the credibility he amassed with his Forever flow and Soulja Boy, well, that’s just SB being SB (“girls suck on my body like mosquitoes“). Still, I won’t be surprised if it’s a hit: BET, MTV and radio eat this stuff up. Play Ball is off Paranormal Activity, one of three new mixtapes Soulja Boy is dropping on October 31. Stay tuned for more (hopefully better) tracks from Soulja Boy’s impending mixtape onslaught.

I don't hate it as much as I thought I would. I think that would be partially b/c of Sir Nathan's preparation-h as I should call it. The soothing stuff before the rash gets out of hand...(Maybe that was a bit much)

Sorry if my bias gives people an unnecessarily negative expectation for the track, but I call em like I hear em. By all means, don't let my opinion (and it is an opinion) influence you.

Let's keep it kosher, people. Its a fact that Soulja Boy song threads get out of hand. Wait... so do Drake song feature threads. Not a fan of much here (production from Boi-1da is especially disappointing), but it works if I was 15 and hung out at the mall.
A fair rating is... |

This is a much better track then the waste of production that leaked from Soulja Boy today, 'I Can Make These Hoes Dance' has a great beat from Polow Da Don, though gets completely ruined by Soulja Boy.
To this track, Drake completely overshadows Soulja Boy who didnt sound all that bad to be honest. The production is decent from Boi-1da, who I still find a little over-rated as a producer. |

soulja boy wanna up his status by adding a real rapper to one of his songs.. hum. well drake did his "november 18th- thing" on here. it was nice. SB was... actually better than usual. but that HOOK??? NO.

This isn't for me. Wasn't feeling the production at all and I have never like Soulja Boy's flow and corny metaphors. Drake was OK.

I'd listen to it again. t was not completely bad, but it certainly wasn't intresting, although the beat was kinda catchy.

SB and his hook straight butchered this song. Drake was top notch, but even drizzy couldn't save this song.

I gotta say this beat bumps!!
Drake killed it and Soulja Boy wasnt as bad on the verses as I expected!! Hook needed some work though maybe take off the autotune and let Drake sing it and you got yourself a HIT!!!! |

This isn't my cup of tea... at all. Radio will love this, though. As will all the kids in high school.
SB should have picked someone who wouldn't completely overshadow him, but then the track would crash and burn. Honestly, I'm kind of disappointed in Drake for doing this song with SB. |

This is truly awful from the over auto tuned badly written hook to the forgettable verses
and although Soulja Boy is not nearly as aggravating as usual(no chanting or wailing) the rhymes he spits are blasphemous "greatest rapper of the century"?, "hip hop hero"? that needs to stop and did drake say "miracles" like he was a character in rugrats? |

i stopped after drake's verse because i felt like a decent track was about to collapse. decent production. not really my style tho. standard drake verse. 2.5. It ain't in my rotation but it's better than two stars.

I gotta say Soulja Boy's songs have improved lately in my humble opinion. Some of his past songs were unbearable to my ears! Now I like his beats more but I can't say he raps better. He has to learn! I don't like his style, seems he raps at random. This song can go in clubs

ouch! Nathan that hurts, just because I'm a teenage girl does not mean that I'll love or even like anything souljaboy makes, and honestly, Drake's a bit dissapointing on this. The production sounds cheap and weak. 'Nuff said

Been watching soulja boy and ever since Gucci Mane took it upon himself to mentor soulja (i know you're all hating on Gucci) hes been slowly getting better and better. Its funny how he announced he was gonna make family safe music than came out with multiple videos of him smoking weed with chains and guns haha. His flow is typically banging now. If you haven't read my past few reviews on Drake, I don't understand why you all like him so much. However, I do like him on this track, but overall its just ok.
