Founder of what would become the largest contiguous empire in the history of the world, Genghis Khan is, to this day, synonymous with “fearsome conqueror.” Thus far, Booth fave Soul Khan hasn’t shown that kind of ambition, instead focusing on cultivating an ardent underground following—but perhaps he was simply biding his time. On this EP standout, the Brown Bag All-Star crowns himself Lord Khan Almighty, and moves to take control of the game. Backed by Marink‘s cinematically retro sample work, the freestyle series alumnus makes clear that he’s not to be f*cked with, even threatening to “sever [his] genitals” and “set [his] balls on fire” to prove his fearlessness to rivals. Even the craziest motherf*cker can’t go it alone, however; Big Chief and Akie Bermiss lend their guest services to the track, the former channeling the Iron Sheik in an aggressive opening verse, and the latter bringing a touch of smoothness to the (no less grisly) chorus. So readers, do you welcome Soul Khan as your new rap overlord? Then you won’t want to miss the bruising bangers on display on the Soul Khan/J57-produced Resolution EP, BBAS/Audible Doctor-mixed Resolution EP, released Tuesday and available here for purchase.
