Trying to make a name for herself by stepping outside of big sister Beyonce’s shadow, Solange Knowles has moved from Columbia to Geffen and will launch her sophomore album, the concept-oriented Soul Angel and the Hadley Street Dreams, later this year. The first single, I’ve Decided, has a distinct Broadway atmosphere and combines Solange’s vocals with a piano-tap beat courtesy of the Neptunes (who’ve worked plenty with her big sis’ boyfriend). While the 21-year-old has a long way to go before she can even dream of filling her sister’s shoes, they’ll be ready and waiting when she starts stepping.
Song has a classy feel. She does have a long way to go before she gets up to Beyonce's level, she isn't as strong as a singer, and this track isn't as good as anything Beyonce has put out, but with a little push, I think she'll get somewhere, that's just not to say a Rihanna or Beyonce level.
I think the point is to not compare her to Beyonce. She's not her, so let's stop wanting her to be and let's rate the song based on Solange. It has a fresh, jazz approach to it that many R&B female singers are not embarking on currently. I like it. It goes in rotation definitely....it's not super-duper hot, but for some reason it deserves a little more than just rotation, so I give it 4 stars, that's really more like a roundup from a 3.7 officially.
Muzzie I understand you if you say that also after an improvement she couldn't reach her sister's level...but to say that Rihanna stands at a high level it's an exaggeration in my opinion! Rihanna has a great team which writes good songs for her, she has a solid appearance, but she can't sing (listen to her live, she's absolutely unable to sing decently)! I bet Solange can sing much, much better than her! This is not my type of song but I give it 3 stars for the originality...would not go on my iPod, though
She is actually starting to look like her sister; which is a welcoming improvement! I like the old 50's style song. Her vocals are developing to a strong point and she is getting closer to her sister's sound as well...another great improvement. I like what I hear from her. I can't believe the Neptunes made this beat! What a surprise!!! Great Track. Definitely a Banger! Something different from both the producer and Solange. Good Work!
Solange has a bright future. I hope, as members have mentioned already, that she can step away from her big sis' and do her own damn thing. Its hard to match up to an A-list act, and to start your career that way is not fair. Solid overall.
cool 50's style beat here . solange 's got a good voice itz my first time hearing her. not really what i like but i can see dis track gettin radio play
It's got a kind of Jazz-Blues beat. She gonna b compared 2 Beyonce all the time and that might be a disadvantage. But like Dj mcm said it does have a Amy Winehouse flow. It's not a hit but i think she could be good.
im glad she's goin' for a different genre with this song. this album may not do the best when it comes out, but at least we can expect to see her on Broadway
I see alot of bulshit ratings on this one.......to each his own.......but if people can stop comparing to B and judge on her alone....this sounds alot better than some of the bulshit out these days.....she has come along way even though she still has a long way to go.....not to mention for some odd reason she starting to look good as hell or maybe its just that picture...but hey this is a real good joint in my opinion
R YOU PEOPLE ON HERE CRAZY OR JUST DEAF... YES SHE IS STARTING TO LOOK LIKE HER SISTER BUT VOCALLY -HELL- NO! SHE SOUNDS MORE LIKE LATOYA LUCKETT AND THIS SONG STRAIGHT SUCK'S ASS. DONT GET ME WRONG I LIKE SOLONGE AND I WANT HER TO COME WITH IT BUT THIS SONG -NO- I THINK BEYONCE' COULD HAVE MADE IT WORK BUT SOLO NEEDS SOMETHING MORE SNAPPY MORE SASSY.
I think people need to stop hating. this is hot, i was actually looking for this song. what female has a hotter song right now? Yall keep comparing her to sis but B can't really sing to me, yeah she has a strong voice but compared to old whitney, mariah, tina marie, No! so stop don't mistake hits for sing ability. Wyclef had a hit that he sang on. Does that mean he can sing. Stop rating based on "she going in a different direction than beyonce" that's the same as comparing them. the song has soul. My boys may clown me but this is going in the ride. grown man music
