Major Lazer and Ariel Rechtshaid

After Calvin “Snoop Lion” Broadus’ last single, anti-firearm anthem No Guns Allowed, I thought I’d heard it all. How wrong I was. Ashtrays and Heartbreaks, the latest release off the West Coast mainstay’s debut reggae album, is almost as much of a surprise as its predecessor, thanks to an unexpected choice of collaborator. On this Major Lazer/Ariel Rechtshaid/Dre Skull-co-produced cut, a nostalgic reflection on past loves and fallen homies, the born-again Rastafarian is joined by 20-year-old pop songstress Miley Cyrus. And I can’t front; her sing-along chorus sounds right at home over the anthemic Island-pop beat. Enough out of me—are you feeling it? If so, you’ll want to stay tuned for more fresh song releases leading up to the April 23, arrival of Snoop’s next LP, Reincarnated.
