Snipes - Steppin Out
Artist: Snipes
Producer: Antonio Motley (Nu Session Band)
Album: Economic Development
Label: Unsigned
If you want to experience the Memphis nightlife, you could hardly ask for a better escort than Snipes. This freshly-minted single, the artist’s first since April’s 19 on My Nina, finds him Steppin’ Out to show a special girl what his hometown has to offer. Antonio Motley and his Nu Session Band deliver a lightly-funky instrumental backdrop for the artist’s smooth and solicitous bars, even capping their instrumental off with a climactic guitar solo. River City neighbors Promise TMG and TNT prove no less eager to please on the guest tip, each tempting listeners with his own narrative of a perfect night out, and Crown Holdaz affiliate Yung Phil completes the picture with a luxuriant sung hook. Feeling it? Then don’t miss the rest of the dope material slated for inclusion on Snipes’ Economic Development LP, scheduled for release January 1, 2013.

The live instrumentation is a great surprise here. Snipes' emcee work, at times, takes a back seat to the music, but walking out on the edge artistically will reap long term rewards.

Not really feelin the mix of Snipe's old-school West-coast flow and this live-instrument beat by Antonio Motley. I don't think it mixes that well together... for me anyway...

Thank ya'll for posting this record! I really appreciate it. This particular brand of music isn't for everyone. People who enjoy complex musical arrangements, live music, and real life stories told from a southern gentleman's point of view will enjoy it. I'm not a punchline rapper, weed rapper, backpacker, or any other stereotype. I come from Memphis and my roots run deep with gospel, soul, blues, funk, and golden era hip hop. My style, flow, and music reflect that. Keep a lookout for more. You just may grow to like it if you give it a chance.
