Smoot ft. Mannie Fresh - Do It Big

Contributed by M. Burmy

Listen to More: Street, Midwest, Collaborations

Hailing from the seldom-repped city of Kenosha, Wisconsin, is underground rapper Smoot.  The MC, who has already gained success with his Hip Hop Stories DVD series, is ready to step into the music limelight with his debut single, Do It Big.  Always the type to stand out in a crowd, Smoot brags about being a big fish in the smallest pond.  There is plenty of substance to his boasting, however not every Wisconsin artist is blessed with the incredible drum patterns of Mannie Fresh; in fact nobody has heard production work this hot for sometime, unless your name is T.I..  When all is said and done, expect Do It Big to live up to its name and hopefully get the 262 some long-overdue respect.

londons finest

mannie fresh never drops a different styled beat, annoying aint even the word, i loved lil wayne’s - bring it back, i loved jeezy’s - and then what, and i loved baby boy’s - naw mean, but after 20 more songs that sounded the same as those, mannie gets realllll realllll annoying. this isnt even aight, i dont like it, nothing new again. good to see a new place representing though.

Folks all over the internet think Wisconsin is all farms, cows, cheese, and milk...This should set ‘em straight! I live right above Kenosha, so am proud to see my SEWI homie shine!

The irony is that if Mannie Fresh didn’t produce this song, most viewers would skip over it.

london’s finest, Fresh did more variety when he was Cash Money’s in-house producer.  But in my opinion, this is one of his more varied tracks. Listen to Juvenile’s “Animal,” “Who Can I Run To,” and “U Ain’t Gotta” to hear more variety from Fresh, as well as R. Prophet’s “Run Tell The DJ” and Mike Jones & LeToya Luckett’s “Bonnie & Clyde.” Then you’ll know all his beats don’t sound the same. And Z, you’re right about that.  Lots of local rappers talk about big money, yet still settle for local producers, but here Smoot backs up his talk.
