Smoke DZA - Watch Me
Artist: Smoke DZA
Producer: The Heatmakerz
Album: Motion Picture Sh*t Series / Good Talk (Vol. 8) Mixtape
Label: High Times Records/Cinematic Music Group
Though Smoke DZA‘s best known in the Booth for bleary-eyed weed-smoking anthems like Marley & Me (Remix) and Kush Blow, he’s bucked that trend with his latest feature, coming through with some bona fide Motion Picture Sh*t. On the newly-released Watch Me, the Harlem native sets aside his blunt to deliver some of the most vivid rhymes we’ve heard from him thus far. Adopting a laid-back yet driven flow, Smoke paints himself as a hustler with enough moneymaking savvy to prosper in the roughest of times, and The Heatmakerz back up his confidence with a victorious instrumental built around a few pitch-shifted samples from Linda Jones’ Ooh Baby You Move Me. Those who want to hear more of what DZA has to offer should stay tuned for future entries in his Motion Picture Sh*t series, premiering every Tuesday. Watch Me will also be featured on the emcee’s DJBooth-cosponsored Good Talk Vol. 8, which will be available exclusively at this very site come April 7th.

Definitely a track set up to showcase lyricism. I like the production a lot, and it is set up in a way to allow DZA's vocals to shine over it. Lyrics are pretty cool, a couple of cool plays on words.

Linda Jones! Where has your work been my whole rap life? Why in the world hasn't this been sampled before? Smoke flexes his versatile muscle on this record.
Y'all are going to really enjoy his contributions to our new mixtape with Jonny & Cinematic Music Group! |

I'm not a fan of this type of hip hop (it reminds me of Through The Wire by Kanye West) but the song is solid, good production and great flow. In rotation

eh this beat aint knockin for me it just aint a good style for him... this may be better for kanye or nas.. but lyrics and flow fit beat in a way, but not his voice... i admit i kinda kinda dig this, it just aint too great

Man, the flow on this is hella tight and the beat is bonkers. We need more conceptual songs in Hip Hop. He been flipping movie themes for a minute now, If I'm not wrong. Definitely looking forward to see what else homie got.

I hate when producer's use samples. It's like they can't be creative on their own. So they have to use a sample to make it catchy. I'm not even hearing him split his lyrics all i hear is that damn sample. When you sample something, use it very very little, not the whole damn song..
