Smoke DZA - Rich Life Poor Life
Artist: Smoke DZA
Producer: Ibe
Album: Substance Abuse
Label: High Times Records/Cinematic Music Group
Though Smoke DZA has earned a reputation as the Booth’s favorite weed aficionado, cannabis isn’t the only (or even the strongest) drug he’s addicted to. Even harder to shake off than his daily greens is the luxurious lifestyle the Harlem native has been enjoying since he signed to Cinematic/Epic. Full of big money (which he spends lavishly to stave off boredom), top-shelf liquors, and willing groupies, the Rich Life is a drastic and intoxicating change from the Poor Life he left behind. Complete with a narcotically hazy apreggiated-synth beat by Ibe, Rich Life Poor Life can be found on Smoke’s aptly-named Substance Abuse mixtape when it hits the ‘net October 6th.

DZA is an emcee who succeeds when he is able to work with some great production muscle. I am not calling this production work GREAT, but I found it to be very enjoyable (especially the intro). I'd like to hear more material that focuses around the title of the project, Substance Abuse.
Other than that, light it up in rotation. |

Damn! this production is definitely in-tune with this era of eclectic sound n ish but it drowns out DZA's verses (which aren't bad whatsoever). But the hook comes off sounding real nice. Overall, this is the freshest joint I've heard from DZA. It's a different sound which I wasn't expecting from him ... Rotation-Stuff.

The beat is similar to "Flashing Lights" by Kanye...the music is cool but I'm not convinced about his flow. Not bad, though

decent shit. I cant say nothing bad about cinematic...they def have an ear for good hip hop over there. First, Nipsey hussle, the Kid Question, and now DZA. Good shit
