SmCity - Watch Me
Artist: SmCity
Producer: Best Kept Secret
Album: The Indie Life: Hate, Love & Money
Label: Twenty20 Music
If you aspire to be a clued-in hip-hop head, you’d better have at least one of your eyes (and, if possible, an ear or two) glued to SmCity; with the kind of moves the Washington, D.C. representer’s been making lately, those who fail to take notice are liable to be left in the dust. On the latest release off his Booth-sponsored street album, Sm attempts to rouse those who’ve been sleeping on his hustle, commanding all who will listen to “Watch Me.” With Best Kept Secret‘s cowbell-laced percussion rhythm and simmering organ chords as his canvas, the artist ponders why some in the game are so slow to take notice—could it be his controversial political opinions (“[They’re] like ‘He’s a terrorist, jail him!’ ‘cause I speak on how America’s failing.”)? Simple professional jealousy (“They’re scared ‘cause I’m appealing to a larger audience.”)? Whatever the motive, this jam should ensure that Booth readers don’t make the same mistake. Tied together with DMV singer Trey Dupree‘s soulful yet swag-drenched hook vocals, this joint is just one of many dope originals to be found on SMCity’s The Indie Life: Hate, Love & Money LP, set to hit our mixtape page Jan. 12, 2012.

Quite possibly the most impressive record Sm has ever sent me (I assume I have not heard anything he choose not to personally send me haha). If his forthcoming Indie Life project sounds just like "Watch Me," people will be doing just that...

This video's concept is one of the most unique videos I've seen come out of the DMV in a long time. People don't deal with the contraversy of the music/radio industry, and then pull in some international issues! Lol very entertaining. This is a prime example of how we need to think bigger than what we think is gonna get us put on! Salute to @smcitymusic

I don't really like this. I don't like SmCity's flow or his sound. The beat is all over the place. I can't really even finish it...

I like this but the constant baby scratching in the back ground gets alittle annoying because the scratch seems to be building up to something and then goes away. rinse and repeat.
